Sherri Papini: Does anyone think it's a hoax?

Such as?

I think we wish it was a hoax because it's pretty awful if it is true, but the police themselves have been clear that her husband passed a polygraph (not proof, but it helps) and she had injuries that corroborated her story.

She was released from the hospital because none of her injuries indicated she needed to stay overnight and after an ordeal like that, I'm sure she preferred to be home with her family.

My only looming question is if this was real, why was she allowed to live?

Women are more likely to drop off and not kill.

For sure they would have kept her in the hospital to be treated and to observe her. Not to mention being looked at by a psychiatrist. Why not post photo's of her severely battered body in the news. The media does it all the time! This is a hoax. This woman is clearly insane. Motif? Money, media and fame. This is BS.

I had no idea her husband worked at Best Buy. Sounds like they are having money issues.

Working at Best But diesn't necessarily translate into making minimum wage. IIt' a corporation with all types of jobs, some of which almost certainly pay quite well.

Please step out of the DCUM area bubble. They live in a semi-rural area in way, way Northern California. As in four hours by car north of San Francisco. I am amazed someone would think corporate job in a town of less than 100,000 - and that city is the county seat. I looked it up and her husband is a "home theater specialist". I can't imagine it "pays well."

Apparently you haven't heard of telecommuting.

If she were truly starving, dehydrated, "branded", severely beaten, etc. - wouldn't she have been admitted? So strange. This whole story makes no sense. And the investigators haven't been able to get any kind of a clear picture about what happened, because she doesn't seem to remember. Just smells fishy.

This is a HUGE red flag to me. There is no way in HELL that a woman who was missing for 3 weeks, starved to the point of losing 13 lbs, visibly branded, and bruised all over her face with injuries so much more horrifying than can be imagined (in her husband's words) would be treated and released in a matter of hours. There is just.no.way. The cops would want to run every test known to man and have her tested, observed and interviewed. It would take way more than a few hours. This alone makes me think it's a hoax.

i agree this doesn't make sense. I keep harping on the 87 pounds. Wouldn't they keep her just to feed her? And people get checked into hospitals for "exhaustion." Clearly she would fit into this category!

It takes a lot for hospitals to admit you there days. Dehydration can typically be treated biny the ER in a few hours with an IV. If she was well-nourished when she disappeared ( & being thin doesn't necessarily mean she wasn't; there are naturally thin woman who are healthy & well-fed at 5'4" & 100 lbs), it is quite feasible that even she if she was barely fed while she was gone, causing her to drop13 lbs (some of which was almost certainly due to dehydration), she wwasn' malnourished enough to warrant being admitted there days. I have a formerly anorexic relative was brought to the ER multiple times after fainting back when she was sick &, even with a much lower BMI than Pappini's, was treated & released the same day.

^ According to the missing posters she is actually 5'3", not 5'4". Not that it makes a huge difference, obviously.

You may or may not be correct. I doubt this is accurate info. https://www.glassdoor.com/Hourly-Pay/Best-Buy-Home-Theater-Specialist-Hourly-Pay-E97_D_KO9,32.htm

Regardless of how much $ this particular guy makes, pointing out that being employed by Best Buy does not necessarily equate to being paid minimum wage is not indicative of being in "the DCUM area bubble". Quite the opposite, actually.

If a hoax, WHO would they allegedly hire to break her nose, brand her, bruise her, and do something that caused her to lose at least 10 pounds? Then leave her on the roadside (which even if controlled is dangerous. Some other psycho could pick her up).

It would be so messed up to do this on purpose.

I'm not sure....I think a possible nefarious thing could have been a tinder hookup gone wrong. Started out seemingly consensual afternoon but they, and the guys gang, wouldn't let her go. Used her for 'fun' for weeks. And sent the women to take care of her, but they couldn't do it...?

Where is your source for this?

I think it was to punish her husband for something. Maybe a drug deal gone bad.

This part but not sure about the hook up part

If she had been sexually assaulted by a gang for weeks, I find it hard to believe she wouldn't be hospitalized for tests and treatment. She supposedly had her nose broken, beatings, branding, and dehydtration/starvation. I really do not believe she would be treated and released in an hour or so.

Plus now husband says she was coughing up blood from screaming at all the many many cars that passed her at 4:30 am on Thanksgiving morning. And she "tucked in" her chains so that explains why the one person who called 911 didn't see it.

Yup. All seems completely believable.

She was BRANDED. All you joggers out there -- I hope you are not joining the chorus of mean spirited comments. There but for the grace of God go any of us who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Because it's an extreme violation of privacy laws. Hospitals and police do not take snapshots and post them in the news. Ever. She's allowed to release the photos herself but it sounds like there's some disfigurement so you can understand why they are not yielding to your morbid curiosity. She doesn't need to give you proof of her injuries. She also cannot be forced to stay in the hospital if she wants to go home. She cannot be forced into a psychiatric commitment if she's not a danger to herself or others. If I had been locked up someplace against my will, I'd want to go home, not to a noisy hospital where I'm poked and prodded and have no privacy.
