Sure, you don't have any responsibility for the messages that you post. There is an easy solution for this communication problem. Stop posting. You really haven't contributed anything helpful to this thread.

NP here. Do any of you seriously think that any of this is helpful to anything other than amusement? Jeff's post was informational. The next 100 posts just noise. The fact that you think your genius postings and musings are substantive or contribute to anything says a LOT about you.

You know, of course that everyone with a Wilson connection already knows the kid's name. It will come out soon enough, but assuming the kid is a minor, it won't be published. What's the rush?

Black? White? Green martian? If "EVERYONE" knows then one of those everyones would have produced that info. You're full of it.

I know the first name and could easily get the last name but I don't think it's important to know the kid's name. I'd prefer to know the name of the security guards on duty that day.

Here's what I really want to know:
* How the security system failed. What was exactly in place for the other doors. Alarms? Cameras?
* How much does DCPS pay that joke of a security company?
* How will they make the school more secure?

On another note, my wilson kid told me that no one was scared that day. Either they are immune to it or the school handled it in a way that let everyone know that the situation was under control. I'm not sure how soon everyone knew who it was (probably like lightning because they are blabbing teenagers with phones out all day long) but kids are saying that the student with the gun is not scary.

Also, Wilson kids not only think that the kids is expelled, they are saying that he is locked up.

Lastly, no one was surprised that a kid got a gun into school.

Why should the criminal's name be kept confidential?? Why protect him?

An earlier poster suggested that the gun was unloaded. In any case the gunkid had ammunition. The Post reports:

"A D.C. Superior Court judge on Wednesday ordered the teen to be housed with the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services until his next hearing. The teen was charged as a juvenile with carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of an unregistered firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition."

The profile of a school shooter is generally not a teen Rambo. It's a kid who's in the shadows and few ever notice him.

I live in the neighborhood and am NOT a fan of routine Wilson kids behavior. however, kid is innocent til proven guilty. Kid has been apprehended and is not an active threat. Sounds like if this spreads wider, police already interviewed/will interview classmates. Also, DC routinely withholds names of minors and this kid should have the same rights. Putting kids name on internet is for eternity, and kid is presumably a minor. Could be your kid screwing up.. If you don't like it--fight to change DC laws for all kids arrested whose names are currently withheld. But please don't tell as that is not the current law.

It's true that as a legal matter the gun thug is innocent until proven guilty of the criminal charges, and juvenile confidentiality applies to the court case. But nothing prevents Wilson from acting on the clear evidence before it to expel him and releasing his name in the context of school discipline.

Not sure if the true story has come out but, according to my sons guidance counselor...the student with the gun showed it to another student. That student (a girl) sent a text to the teacher during class and told him. The teacher texted the dean of students and kept on teaching. The student with the gun kept asking to use the bathroom and the teacher said no and kept him contained and calm. The Dean and the Principal came into the classroom and called the student out. Once they had him out of the room the Principal went in and got the backpack with the gun. The student was handed over to the police and was arrested.

In my opinion, the real heroes here are the student who notified her teacher and of course the brilliant teacher who held it together and didn't miss a beat. We should be celebrating them.

As a new parent of Wilson, I have to say that I am terrified by the whole awful situation but, I do believe that the administration handling the situation well. I was impressed by the email that came out 45 mins after the incident. Every time I enter Wilson, I have to go through the metal detectors and show my id. I also, wear a visitor pass.

I am not saying that Wilson does not have problems...they do. My son reports daily fights in the cafeteria and in the halls. Also, we are all aware of the stealing that is going on a CVS. To me the real problem is a small group of kids that are just being bad and acting like idiots giving the school a bad rep. I believe that for the safety of all of our kids the administration needs to get a grip on this group of kids that are causing trouble. If they are bringing in weapons, fighting or stealing from local store they need to be dealt with in a firm manner including alternate schooling choices and if out of bounds being sent back to their neighborhood school.

This is just my opinion as a parent and BTW I don't care what color anyone is. If you act bad, break rules and jeopardize the safety of others you need to face the consequences.
