Parents are going to go ballistic when they see this letter...
Taking aim at another point, metal detectors in high schools are similar to TSA at the airport: Security Theater. It may provide comfort to some, but there is no 100% effective defense against contraband when there are so many people and moving parts involved. |
For all you know the metal detectors could be why the gun was found. |
|
Maybe you callous folks should spend some time with this:

Well, you know I'm not one to go off half-cocked. |
| Quit sniping at Jeff. It's not his fault. |
| Well, someone ought to be fired over this. |

My wilson kid said it was found in a bacpack in a locker and someone who knew about it went to an adult.
Parents will definitely go in lock, stock and barrel to insist on how there could be such breech in security. Just a shot in the dark but doors are open and security is nonexistent early in the am when i drop my kid off for before school activities. |
If this is true, very big kudos to the kid who reported it to an adult. And to his or her parents for raising them right!!! |
| was it loaded? were there bullets nearby? |
|
This happened several times when I was in high school in early nineties (in Florida.) There were no metal detectors. The administration would get tipped off by a student.
I remember one time they didn't even wait for the cops. The assistant principal just went into the classroom and wrestled the kid to the ground. You gotta love Florida! |
And what do you sound like, trying to muzzle everyone? |
At least kids are starting to understand the "if you see something, say something" mantra. Thank goodness a child went to an adult. |
Was there an alligator involved? There must have been an aligator. |
My son heard that the kid with the gun posted a picture of it on SnapChat. That's third or fourth hand though, so not necessarily true. |
