Just because you are unable to stop at just one or two cookies doesn't mean that everyone else has the same weakness.

One or two of any treat is not harmful.

not if you it them multiple times a day. 2 cookies have 30g of sugar. That's over daily recommendation.

Posters who write that asparagus is funny should be ashamed of their ignorance. European kids eat adult food and don't have special "kid diet" consisted of bread and pasta and chicken nuggets. They also have better figures and are healthy

No one said they are feeding their kids a cookie filled lunch multiple times/day.

No one said it, but most people eat "treats" multiple times a day:
cookie = treat
juice = treat
fruit snacks = treat
candy = treat
desserts = treat
muffin = treat
sugary ceral = treat
soda = treat

Americans eat treats all day in between processed food or junk food and wonder why they're fat.

Perhaps "most" people in your circle do this but most people in my circle do not. We do give a treat with lunch though. None after dinner. I would rather them get that treat early in the day at lunch or after school instead of in the evening after dinner.

Ikr, poor op and her train wreck of a thread...

well maybe if OP was sending things other than candy it wouldn't get stolen...

You are a disaster of a person.

Agreed. Blame the victim.

The only people I know who eat this junk daily and drink soda are rednecks and low SEC.

Educated, health conscience people stay away from it.

Hey, guys! Guys!!! Come on!!! We are all uniquely qualified to deal with this situation! Even our KIDS have been tutored in just how to deal with this! BEHOLD:

As self respecting parents who have had to read any number of these "this situation seems ridiculous and improbable but my kid seems to like it" books to our children, we HAVE JUST THE RIGHT WISDOM TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM! (My favorite is Nancy Carlson above who suggests sending the kid to school with a hidden away real lunch that is delicious AND an out-in-the-open fake lunch that consists of tuna-fish-and-vinegar sandwiches and surprise lard-filled oreos. Mmmm.)

So come on! WE HAVE BEEN TRAINING FOR THIS FOR ALL OF OUR PARENTHOOD! WE CAN DO THIS!!!

If you want to appear educated, I recommend using the word conscious when you need an adjective.

Low SEC? Mississippi State University, for example?

Obviously, you didn't read the satirical article regarding to which PPs are referring. I'm afraid your lack of humor is obvious.

Actually excel academy in DC takes unhealthy items out of the lunch. They are returned but not thrown out

I'm 100% positive that I've packed them and I even have DH double check her bag before he leaves in the morning. Yesterday afternoon she came home again saying that her snacks were missing and all she had was her PB&J and crackers! I'm horrid! I talked to the principal this morning and she says, oh this has happened before, but I'll talk to her teacher. Has anyone else been in this situation before? What did you do?

When I was in grade school I had a classmate who went into kids lunches every day. I went to get something from the coat area and there she was. I completely forgot about her until one day as a special treat my mother put a candy bar in my lunch. I thought about how much I would enjoy eating it at lunch time. When I opened my lunch and it was gone and I knew I was had. Clearly lil Tammy had an eating disorder.

OP here. We still haven't found the culprit. However, she's been keeping her lunch in her backpack and nothing is missing.

That's what I would have done. You have to make it harder on the thief to steal from you rather than your neighbors. Marking each item with the kid's name with a Sharpie is also a good idea.

It would've been funnier if OP said, sending my child with hostess pies, Twinkies and mountain dew why is it getting taken?

Oh you think this doesn't happen? I used to volunteer for my DC's K/1 lunch, and I saw a couple of kids with a full 12oz can of Mountain Dew. I felt so sorry for the teachers of those kids that will be returning to class full of sugar and caffeine. This was not at a Title 1 school. I have also seen fruit cups as well, and those horrid lunchables.

And to the other PP who made fun of "seaweed and quinoa" ... my DC *loves* seaweed. When DC takes them for lunch, other kids around her want them. They don't like quinoa, though, and neither do I.

Occasionally, I'll pack a cookie or doughnut along with a the fruit and other healthier food. Find balance. That's the key.

What are you even talking about? This is a discussion about what we feed our kids. Now, back to subject: I packed asparagus quesadilla and Milk Duds. Healthy? Or trailer parkery?

Wait now fruit cups are verboten?

Man, you really have to work hard to keep up here. It's fruit! In a cup!
