Man, you really have to work hard to keep up here. It's fruit! In a cup!

Often added sugar in that cup.

And that poster says at the bottom of her post that she does put doughnuts or cookies in her kids lunches. Uhhhh.

I'm glad the solution was that easy.

What are you even talking about? This is a discussion about what we feed our kids. Now, back to subject: I packed asparagus quesadilla and Milk Duds. Healthy? Or trailer parkery?

That lunch is just confused!!

Here's something that happened today. The mother of a nice family in our neighborhood is extremely strict with food. Everything must be all natural, organic, non-GMO, and very low or zero sugar. Even the Halloween candy is edited and most is discarded. The Dad was taking the kids on a day trip this morning and told them their Mom was staying home. Immediately, one of the kids says, "Since Mom's not coming, can we get some candy?" The answer was "yes".

That's like Gwenyth Paltrow. When she's out with her kids, she feeds them all organic, quinoa this and that. When their dad takes them, it's burgers and fries.

I'm that poster. I was saying that I saw fruit cups and what not at school lunches, not that I thought it was "horrid". The only thing I find horrible are the lunchables and the 12oz can of Mountain Dew. I did say at the end to find balance, folks.

As long as it's not an asparagus-and-Milk-Dud quesadilla.

What about the fruit cups that are packed in 100% juice - not HFCS - are those bad?

I have a friend whose husband is a food Nazi. She doesn't really care but tries to adhere. It's totally annoying to be around; the kid is constantly going for my kids' snacks (goldfish or something else dangerously non-organic) and so is my friend! It's so annoying and he melts down because he is hungry. I can't imagine what the kid will be like when he starts K next year.

Of course! Fruit is carbs, and carbs are bad! Or something. Everything is bad, according to somebody.

(Actually I do have two sincere objections to fruit cups:

1. You're paying (through the nose) for the packaging and the convenience.
2. Garbage.

So I don't buy them. But if you want to buy them, go ahead!)

I think it's hilarious that anyone thinks a teacher is digging through kuds' lunches to take out unhealthy stuff. I'm a 3rd grade teacher and I can assure you that I have more important things to do during the day. I couldn't even tell you what my students have in their lunches and to be honest, I don't care.

Aren't you supposed to be observing them to be sure they all have enough food, or they get a lunch from the school? I thought that was a requirement.

Not the pp teacher, but teachers don't eat lunch with the kids. There are separate monitors (aids) in the lunchroom that supervise lunchtime. They are the ones that will make the decision to get the kids food if they need it.

I've known one who did it. She made the time. She was going to control what was in her classroom and that was that. She wasn't my kid's teacher, either. Just someone I knew. She was quite proud of herself. I never did find out just what she did with the food she took, or how long she actually got away with it.
