You just described my son's 4th grade teacher (on the computer all the time). The year after my son had him, he became the school technology specialist (left the classroom). My son's 5th grade teacher was a disaster. She came, stayed the year while the administration tried to do damage control (never admitting that the teacher was wrong on so many things) and then she was gone the next year. Nobody knows where she went, but my son and the other students had a pretty wasted year. Thankfully he liked his 6th grade teachers. |
| Wow. Three kids through FCPS. Wouldn't want to hang out with all of their teachers, but none of them were bad as you all describe. |
I agree with you poster. I am all for the 3 month summer vacation. Mostly for my kids but the teachers too! Maybe if they quit increasing the school year and get back to the Memorial Day to Labor Day schedule the would save a little money. Not to mention wasting countless dollars on a bogus sleep study when they could have made the change without the expense a change in times for which they intended to pass all along. The wasted dollars on the study and town hall meetings for show was waste. Then we get to the BOS and School Board giving themselves a raise when we are in a budget crises. The current BOS and FCPS SB are the ones running us off in a ditch. They borrow money in bonds year after year. Anyone know when the last audit was done by an outside company for the BOS and FCPS SB budgets? |
| OK teachers who may be on this forum. I appreciate you! I am a parent of 3 in FCPS. I do not agree with the unjustified bashing of you. I appreciate and know how much you give to our children. I think you deserve the large raise before BOS and School Board. --I will take this moment to educate the teacher bashers, who constantly show their ignorance, the BOS and School Board are part time jobs not the teachers.-- I know how much the majority of our teachers work. I realize much of the money you earn goes to supplies for your classrooms so that our kids can have what they need. I have seen you give your lunch or your money to children who need it because their slack ass parents don't give a damn. Teacher bashers move! Go overcrowd another school district and leave us alone! You are not welcome here! I will no longer keep my mouth shut as you trash our teachers. They don't deserve it and you don't deserve to be listened to. Teachers I will support you, do support you and will always support you. You are with my children more waking hours than I. I do set the bar high and I do believe in it takes a village to raise good kids. I will treat you with respect and dignity when problems arise and I do expect the same from you. Thank you teachers! |
Once more: The teacher contract is for 194 days. That is less than 39 weeks. 52 weeks in a year. That comes out to 13 weeks of vacation=3 months. All of it may not be in the summer, but, even discounting Christmas and Thanksgiving which everyone gets, that is still a lot of vacation. |
And salaries for only those running the budget - into the ground! |
If it is so cushy then GO TEACH my dear. Put your money and time where your mouth is. |
You are a crack pot "Once more" poster. |
Oh and you don't deserve to be listened to. |
Un paid vacation. |
However, I do not want an ignorant teacher - teaching my kid. So maybe moving would be a better option for you. |
Not so easy because HUNDREDS of applicants compete for every teaching job. Which suggests those jobs aren't nearly as horrible, underpaid, and overworked as whiny teachers like to pretend they are. |
True, but there are many opportunities for teachers to do something during those days. All the teachers I know who want to do extra work, do so. They teach afterschool classes, they become tutors, they work somewhere else in the summer. There are many part time employees in this country that work more than one job. If the part time year work does not suit you, then go into a job that is a full year salary. Raising the salary will not change your working days. I'm all for paying teachers as much as we can, but we have to get a hold of the workload for teachers first. It's too much and paying teachers more will not solve this. |
LOL! Taught for years. I do wish teachers got paid more, but let's be real. They do get a lot of vacation. |
Okay, that increases your salary per week quite a bit. |
