Once more:
The teacher contract is for 194 days.  That is less than 39 weeks.  52 weeks in a year.  That comes out to 13 weeks of vacation=3 months.  All of it may not be in the summer, but, even discounting Christmas and Thanksgiving which everyone gets, that is still a lot of vacation.

True, but there are many opportunities for teachers to do something during those days. All the teachers I know who want to do extra work, do so. They teach afterschool classes, they become tutors, they work somewhere else in the summer. There are many part time employees in this country that work more than one job. If the part time year work does not suit you, then go into a job that is a full year salary. Raising the salary will not change your working days. I'm all for paying teachers as much as we can, but we have to get a hold of the workload for teachers first. It's too much and paying teachers more will not solve this.[/quote]
