I'm not sure, either. I thought that their real property tax rate was very similar to Fairfax. |
| The issue isn't whether teachers "deserve" more. The issue is that if FCPS isn't competitive with other school systems, it will be at a competitive disadvantage attracting the best teachers. |
Where are you getting 17K? |
Page 38 of the WABE report shows a $6500 gap for step ten with a Master's degree. http://www.fcps.edu/fs/budget/wabe/2015.pdf |
| New budget says FCPS teachers will get 3.9 percent raise. |
That's if you include step increases (for those eligible). Market scale adjustment (COLA) is .62%. |
|
Guess what? Private schools pay their teachers even less.. Yet those teachers provide better education for their students (otherwise parents would not pay 25K+ tuition and send their kids to a free public school).
Bottom line- I do not think that FCPS needs to pay teachers more... This is a free market economy and as long as there are enough people willing to take the job at a given salary, there is no need to consider a raise. |
Nice try. People send their kids to private school to avoid certain demographics and/ or to receive additional religious instruction. |
Or because they think their kids will get a better education. I've always been a public school proponent, but private is looking better. |
| Private school class sizes are also much smaller. |
myth |
Some people do, but most send their kids to private for better teachers/education. Otherwise how can you explain existence of secular private schools and the fact that the best private school in the district have a very diverse student body? |
Diverse skin colors, not bank accounts. |
It is higher. In addition, they have many taxes and fees that aren't collected by Fairfax. Developers have to fund the schools and transportation at an equal rate. No proffers involved that can skew in the developer's favor. |
