You simply cannot generalize that women would be safe and men would be unsafe and use that as your basis for wear a transgender woman should be. You are back pedaling because your argument fell apart
FWIW I don't know what the solution should be, it is an interesting topic and a good debate

I'm not interested in philosophical debate about the limits of human knowledge about others. I'm interested in real people being able to use public facilities safely and conveniently as part of their daily lives. Is it likely that a transgender woman's use of the women's locker room places other women in real (rather than imagined) danger? No. Is it likely that a transgender woman's use of the men's locker room places her in real danger? Yes.

Um, no. Exactly the opposite.

OK, then please cite two cases where a transgender woman assaulted, beat, murdered, raped, or otherwise caused harm to women in a women's locker room. I'll wait.

Why don't we just get rid of gendered locker rooms all together and just have one big locker room since no one is supposed to be looking at anyone else anyway.

You know if someone has a penis. This person does not belong in the women's bathroom or locker room.

I bet you've used a women's bathroom at the same time as a woman with a penis. I know that I have.

Would you support this?

Who the hell made up this word? I will admit - I thought the first time I saw it in this thread that it was a typo.
Sad times we are in that we have to have a word to describe people who are NOT transgender. Pathetic.

What word would you use to describe people who are NOT transgender? "NOT-transgender" seems quite clumsy to me. And the opposite of "trans" is "cis". Just ask the Romans about Gaul.

Opposites are pathetic now? Good grief. You know what's really pathetic? Ignorance.

Educate yourself!

I don't understand the "what if" fear & paranoia. None of those fears are rooted in reality.

I go in the locker room, and get out ASAP. Couldn't care less who else is in there. I don't look at others, and don't want others looking at me. Occasionally there are some leery women who are mostly trying to size themselves up against you and compare themselves to you, but that's rooted in insecurity and pettiness - not safety.

I'll bet that in gyms all across America, transgender persons are using men & women's locker rooms or restrooms, and YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. It's really just the knowing about it that bothers some people, for no factual reason.

The fear you have of transgender persons or men dressing as women just to get leery (which is not what transgender persons are doing) is an irrational fear that has no basis in reality. It's a fear that has no truth.

Why not have trans and cis changing rooms? Aside from the obvious space and cost considerations, because separate but equal doesn't work so well.

Why should she be allowed to use the women's changing room? Because she's a woman.

What would I do if I saw a trans person in a locker room? Smile awkwardly and then wonder WTF I was doing staring at other people in the locker room like a damn creep.

Why is this not an "OMG, think of the cis rights!" issue? Privilege.

Why is this an 11-page long thread already? Ignorance and transphobia.

You make me sad sometimes, DCUM. For all the super smart, super well-educated folks this area allegedly attracts, there sure are some slowpokes in the mix.

It would not be a big deal for her to look at the mans genitals. She wouldn't even see anything, because she is not going there to look around.

She didn't go into the men's changing room because she is not a man, she is a woman. Same reason I don't go to the men's changing room.

Yes, but if there is no harm in viewing men's private parts, why couldn't she go to men's room? Seems like no harm would be done for her.

Are you a woman? Why don't you go to the men's changing room?

Not a woman.

So why do you care?

NP, but I've noticed that while most of the public response has been positive towards Planet Fitness, most of the negative feedback is from men. It's weird. It's almost like those men are afraid that their wife/girlfriend will be turned on by seeing someone's penis (that, GASP, isn't their husband, boyfriend, partner, etc), and rooted in a kind of jealousy - than safety concern (because transgender people have been using public restrooms/locker rooms for years, decades, without people knowing, and without there being a safety violation).

This is the boost I need to go join Planet Fitness.

So...let's put it in a not hypothetical context. What locker room is former men's decathlon gold medalist Bruce Jenner supposed to use? I vote men's room, hair, clothes, and pretty manicure not withstanding.

I wouldn't belong to a gym with transformers.

If he feels he's transgender, then I'll share the changing room with her.

Name a case where a tranny got beat up in a men's locker room.
