Boys need intensive classes on how to be respectful of women since many parents are not instilling this value at home.

I wonder if they were even raised by parents and not boarding schools.

If it's true, those guys should get life sentences. I'm just having a hard time believing the story as written.

When was the last time you were on a college campus/around college-age boys? B/C you sounds incredibly naive

More unbelievable than the Duke rape case years ago.

It's actually not in the least unbelievable. You're inexperienced and/or naive to think it is.

The Duke rape case was he said/she said.. No judgement of innocence. The fact is , an all white lacrosse team of rich kids had a party where they purchased African American strippers for objectification and entertainment. You can imagine the toxic atmosphere.

The Duke case was proven to be a complete fabrication. As this will likely be.

Classes are useless if the students continue to binge drink. I will make a sweeping generalization and say the about 80% of the problems on college campuses would disappear if students did not drink.

As would 80% of the fun.

Back in my day, you didn't have sex in HS until junior or senior year and only with a long term BF...otherwise you were labeled a slut. And parents weren't cool with putting their teens or Tweens on BC, so girls were careful not to do anything that could result in pregnancy.

Now I'm hearing about girls giving handjobs and BJs at MS parties!!! And there's usually photographic or video evidence of it circulated around school.

Things are getting worse because women are behaving like oppressive males. Not the poor victim in the story but the culture of girls and women who think they are empowered by getting drunk, hooking up, work hard/play hard, putting down other women who want to marry and have children in their 20's and women who don't drink. I read a story about the UPenn women's lacrosse team that trashed a bar and were exposing themselves. College campuses are ruled by hedonistic sociopathic behavior ruled by alcohol. The work hard play hard mentality is sick. All these bros on campus really think "I studied hard for my finance test so I deserve to get wasted and have sex with who ever I want and not give a crap about anyone but myself". Women are not helping themselves by giving in to this behavior.

Unfortunately , if drinking were banned and no drugs were available , the suicide rate would skyrocket and rape / violence would increase too. There is only so many games of monopoly and soda that a 22 year old can take.

That is a sick way of thinking that people would commit suicide if they could not drink. No wonder the world is so messed up.

Maybe... But 20-23 year olds without alcohol can descend into a circular firing squad of boredom and frustration .

Just out of curiosity, how old are you? I'm in my 50s, and kids were sexually active and quite casual about it when I was a teenager. I remember girls talking about their sexual needs and feelings in what was a newly healthy way at the time. Of course, there were always those who acted out because of low self-esteem, and there always were and will be guys who would push any agenda to get sex. It did feel like we were making progress as girls and women, though. There were lots of sex manuals about pleasing both partners. Now there's just a massive amount of porn where guys use women like willing rag dolls. Porn is made for men to jack off to.

I've noticed over the years that girls are going backwards in how they accept porn behavior as norm, go along in their own objectification, and perform services for guys without valuing themselves or realizing that sex is supposed to be mutually pleasurable.

Porn is everywhere, and is doing a good job of teaching boys that it's normal to objectify women, and that women exist sexually to please them. That's what porn is made for. And when you objectify people, you can rationalize using them for whatever purpose you want.

I knew plenty of girls who were raped when I was in college. Typical scenario: be at a frat party, or at a guys' group house. Have too much to drink. Get raped. Rarely did anyone report it. The guys were usually drinking too. The most predatory ones didn't drink much, since this is how they got sex regularly. This is what certain males do. It's the nature of the beast, and how we set up our society is how we control it. It's an ongoing battle to empower women in every way, and instill attitudes in both sexes that limit objectification of anyone.

I could have written this- about the same age as you, similar experiences. I attended UVa but my friends who went to other schools had similar experiences with date rape in college. The addition of social media has ignited the problem IMO and made it much worse.
Colleges have always protected their young white men who commit crimes.

That is because they model generations before them who drink themselves sick. 10, 11, 12 year old kids don't drink and love life and then they grow up in a society that tells them that there is something wrong with them if they don't take the liquid drug called alcohol for a good time. There is so much to
enjoy about life without drugs.

For those of you wondering why the victims didn't come forward in these cases, behold this conversation and the "she must be mentally ill" conversation. Both of which are based on nothing but the posters' discomfort with the idea that this could even happen, and even the extensive vetting of the RS article isn't enough to overcome their "truthiness." There is absolutely no evidence to discredit their accounts, and yet the rape apologists are already waiving the "she's lying/she's crazy" banners.

Why is it hard to believe? No student at U Va has been suspended for rape or sexual assault in the last 5 years. Many have been suspended for cheating. They know that they will be protected by the University if the victim complains. It's a freebie.

People like you are part of the problem. You refuse to believe that anything like this could EVER happen, despite numerous complaints from undergraduate women that it has happened and continues to happen. You are almost as bad as the men who rape, because you create the environment where men can do this sort of thing.

UVa has the same problem that Penn State and the Catholic Church had. They'd rather protect their reputation than protect people.

You are correct, pp. But it's really tough to discredit a victim like the UVA girl *had she gone to the hospital and gotten a rape kit, photos, etc.*
