I am an Asian woman married to a white guy. Ask me (practically) anything.

I was wondering when you would come out. Well, in the spirit of these Ask-Me-Anything threads, I will respond seriously, because I actually know what you are getting at behind your anonymous ill-will. The fetishizers do exist, and American women of Asian descent (of which I am one) are generally pretty good at weeding them out. I know within 5 minutes of the "Konichiwa, lovely lady!" and the "I love chow mein, it's my favorite food" that I found one. I am generally polite and get the hell away immediately. There may be Asian women who date those guys, maybe they have low self-esteem, I don't know.

As for my DH, well, after meeting him in an Ivy institution and having a couple of kids, I doubt he would have stuck around this long just because I look vaguely like Lucy Liu--which I don't, by the way.

The fetishizers are easy to weed out. If they have a bunch of exes who are Asian, run.

This is not very uncommon you know. I am also Asian married to a white guy. So are Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg.

Foreign born but raised here in the U.S. since infancy. So, those two things in your question are not mutually exclusive.

So wait, I'm confused. What's wrong (like you implied) with saying konichiwa to a Japanese woman born in Japan but living in the US? I travel to Japan frequently and speak conversational Japanese with my Japanese-born coworkers.

If you took his last name, are people every surprised when they meet an Asian 'Sarah Jones'?

(Also, I hope this is not taken as racist in any way-I grew up with a blonde, white girl with an Asian last name and teachers, etc. were always taken aback).

Not the OP, but I feel like so many white couples have adopted Asian children in some cities and circles (Manhattan for example) that this is common...I went to a progressive private school in a big city and there were so many Asian "Sarah Jones..."

This thread is 3 years old. OP may or may not even be around still.

Didn't read the rest of the posts. How do your kids feel about being Hapa? Some combinations, Asian wife- blond tall husband: kids will sometimes have light brown hair, Almond shaped eyes and be tall. I married an italian and have one child but she looks like me.

lol!!! I remember this one.

I'm an Asian woman married to a white man. Some people are a bit surprised when they meet me face to face. However, I think that is becoming less common (being surprised) especially around places like DC and Bay Area where white/Asian mix is so common.

Not OP, but my kids are half. They don't know any different, and where we live, mixed race people are common, so they don't stick out. As they grow older, they understand more that they are a mix of different races and cultures, and again, given that we live in such a diverse area, to them, it's nbd.

They have a mix of our features. One DC has fairer skin/hair, while the other is darker. One's eyes are more almond shaped than the other. It's quite a mix, but they are both beautiful, if I do say so myself.

I will say though, that at one point when my older DC was very young, we lived in an area where most of the kids were white, and all of his bffs were blonde/blue eyed. He said to me one day that he wished he had yellow hair. That saddened me. We moved out of that area for various reasons, but the lack of diversity was one of the reasons, though I believe that area has become more diverse since we've moved.
