Ack sorry, wrong post! Pls ignore |
| Hi OP, if your company posts that a role is hybrid, how flexible are you in considering remote candidates that are not located near the listed city? Is it a possibility if you try but are not able to quickly find a suitable local candidate? |
It’s possible. But then we would repost the role entirely as a Remote position. If the role says Hybrid, that is likely a company rule. As an applicant, I’d bypass the roles where I can’t meet the stated requirement. |
| Hi OP, I'm late 40s communications generalist/director type who's unemployed and immediately seeking work at a time when (I feel) communications people are expected to be graphic designers, thousands are applying for roles, and I can't seem to get past first or second interview. Do you think I should find a different field, temp, or what I should I do several months in to break through and finally get some money/employment? |
Jesus, THIS! Even entry level positions and even people with accomplished records. I retired from a long litigation/attorney career and had been a supervisor. I have many accolades. It is evident I'm capable from my resume and 1-2 interviews would've been sufficient to ascertain that (along with references and writing samples). I finally gave up and am just starting my own private practice. It's so wasteful. And borderline insulting. |
Comms is one area massively impacted by AI. Maybe try short and long term contract work? My company used Creative Circle to extend our marketing capabilities. They provide staffing for graphic design copywriting and marketing. As a contractor you would build your profile on their site and join the talent network. I’m sure there are other similar firms too. It could be a way to side gig for the interim. On changing fields - also a possibility and quite honestly may be the way to go. Maybe seek out one of the roles that trains the ai LLMs? (there are several out there these days bc hey someone has to teach it). I’ve seen roles highly specialized like teach ai the basics of 8th grade science, teach ai the basics of instructional design, there might be ones for copywriting marketing and comms. Eventually though ai is coming for anything communications related so yeah it might be time to pivot. |
| Q: I’m guessing most people use AI to tailor their resume to match the position they’re applying to? Any specific AI you recommend? And what prompts are the best? Is it as simple as feeding the text of the opening and my resume and then let AI do its magic then review/update manually? |
| OP: if you just find out about a job that’s been posted for more than 30 days is it still worthwhile to apply? I realize that applying at least takes the chances to above absolute zero, but I assume by 30+ days the process is so far underway that the application is not likely to get looked at. Thoughts? |
Yes it’s likely underway so go in with that expectation. However you never know. I have a role right now that is going into its third week - we do have candidates in the pipeline but none are a perfect fit. Like, we are making compromises with the talent pool that has shown up thus far. I continually go back to the funnel and check to see if there are any recent, stronger applicants. So, you never know! It could be worth 20 min of your time to send an application in. |

| What KIND of recruiter are you and how long have you been recruiting? How many people do you hire a year and what roles do you hire for the most? |
I’ll give info on last two companies. Commercial sales marketing and operations for a large revenue region. My team and I would fill about 150 roles each year everything from Commerical Leaders, Head of Finance, Head of Compliance, all the way to customer service and distribution roles. Professional services as the solo recruiter - everything from VP, consultants, back office tech, and sales operations |
I'm not the OP but I am also in recruiting. It doesn't hurt to send a LinkedIn message directly to the recruiter(s). Particularly for our internships, we get THOUSANDS of applications and unfortunately we can't possible go through them all. I've had interns message me direclty on LI, which then prompts me to find/view their application in our system. We have hired interns this way who definitely would not have gotten eyes on their resume otherwise. Essentially, anything you can do to differeniate yourself. If the company has a careers/recruiting inbox, send a brief note there mentioning your application and reiterating your interest. If you have any LI connections at the company, reach out to them. |
