Summer swim brings out the crazy

Not really, they are going to tell you whether a kid is fast and likely take a relay spot/swim in A meets.

I had no idea there were pools where people didn't post a ladder. We have a few kids (and, yes, sadly a few parents) who stalk the ladder postings.

D1 team here. No ladder. I can only imagine how much that would kill the fun.

Nope, no way. Nice try. All the D1 pools post them.

You don’t know wtf you’re talking about, speaking of nice try.

The worst are the mean mom cliques. They gossip about other children and adults, take over all key volunteer positions to have influence and be brown nosers and control, lobby for their kids and friends kids to be coaches, and have no life of their own. They are fake, mean, and pathetic and I’ve never seen more of them than at summer swim. God help us. I wish my kids weren’t interested. Try to find the nice parents who aren’t t fake and have a life.

So on point. The best, however, are the Carolyn Burnham types from American Beauty. They provide endless hours of unrivaled entertainment.

This aspect is definitely annoying, especially when your child is good but not part of the “clique.” It really irritates me that the cliques have oversight over how heats and lanes are organized for Time Trials and B meets. “Team representatives agree on the seeding method (e.g., by time, friend groups, random) and communicate it to the Clerk of Course.” I believe NVSL should have more clearly defined rules regarding this procedure. I’m all for having a time-efficient B meet or Time Trials, but when your child’s time is fastest in their age group and, for some reason, the powers that be place the slower kids in the faster lane, it’s frustrating. the powers to be put the slower kids in the faster lane..

I don't disagree, but Time Trials and B Meets are not considered NVSL meets and are not subject to league policies. B Meet League rules and individual team handbooks should follow traditional lane seeding. Sometimes heats are collapsed for efficiency, but if a faster kid is seeded into an outside lane with a slower kid in the middle, I'd inquire.

This happens all the time and my fast swimmer just goes with it. It doesn’t impact their swimming and kinda funny that they fight for those lanes when they are obviously slower.

Our B meets are so big that we don’t really sees the kids. We mix them up so it’s not all the same kids from the same team but it is totally random which heat or lane they end up in!

We don't typically seed B meets. I think the main reason is because it makes clerk of course easier when you just throw 6 kids in the same age group together. People also tend to flake out more and not show up to B meets and not seeding allows all lanes to be filled. Kids also like to swim with their friends at B meets especially if its against a team we don't swim against on Saturdays.

Agreed a lot of of no shows and time is of the essence at B meets . It’s just annoying when your kid is .20 from making a mixed aged relay , and the powers to be will utilize the “ randomness “ to their advantage. They will stack some heats and soften others .

I don’t know the name of our B Meet league, but it’s South Run, Fairfax Station, Old Keene Mill, Walden Glen, Rolling Hills, Fox Hunt, Orange Hunt, Cottontail, and others. We seed every B meet, often running races 13 and up, mixing genders, etc. Our meets are speedy, efficient, and organized. No cards, heat sheets, same officials as are available for A meets, and so forth. It is AWESOME!

One option to push a kid would be to have them swim up at a B meet. Still it’s tough to get best time to make a relay on a Monday night.

I think Newington Forest, Crosspointe, Ravensworth, Village West, Daventry, Laurel Hill, Hunt Valley, Springboard, and maybe others are also in this B Meet league. It’s really big.

I believe that’s the Springfield-Burke B Meet League and they all seed their B meets.
