Our league is the best! Even with some huge teams, we get done in 2-2.5 hours max, and always before the sun goes down (although, honestly, I don’t mind the cooler air once the sun starts to dip). |
Can we join your pool? 😉 This stuff happens all the time at our pool. Reps are constantly changing coaches picks to favor their kids & their friends. |
Yeah it needs to be coaches decision. Should be a process for seeding all meets. |
Not seeding B meets is so different than what we do at our MCSL pool. We seed and then combine heats when we have no shows. |
A very large B Meet league within NVSL teams seeds B Meets, and the meets run (largely) seamlessly. But some of the B Meet leagues within NVSL are not organized. It’s a mix. |
I think that was kind of their point. Team rep kid is put in a lane swimming up (or a girl with the boys) while their kid is in a slow heat. |
Yes. Several other pools have started emulating this (including ours). Seeding makes the b meet move faster, it makes coc job much easier, it gets kids better times. It’s also better for slower swimmers. |

But do you seed all ages/genders? Just one long list fast to slow? |
Wut. Of course it’s seeded by age and gender. |
I didn’t even know “B” meet leagues were a thing! I am jealous because having to scramble every year to find pools to swim against is stressful! |
I’m an efficiency person and the other thing you could do to speed up B meets that worked on the club level is to group the ages and run heats mixed gender. I would group them 8 and under, 9-12 and 13 and over. Club also ran heats fastest to slowest at the PVS Opens this year and it did seem to help with the efficiency, so you could try that at B meets too. You want to make summer swim attractive and fun for all levels of swimmers and B meets that are just a hot mess and last 4-5 hours do not help. |
I completely agree. By seeding the B Meets you reduce the overall time of the meet. You can also get in more events because there aren’t slower swimmers in each heat, making the meet last longer. You put people together with similar times. This also helps swimmers swim with others that are about their same ability which is more enjoyable a lot of times! This also helps end the meet earlier and hopefully you can avoid the afternoon thunderstorms that end so many of the B Meets!! |
Your kid should be focused on swimming THEIR best race. This is summer swimming, not the Olympics! It’s supposed to be fun. At the end of the day it’s your child against the clock. They should be trying to swim their best on that given day rather than worrying about mom drama and who is in what lane, next to some faster kid… |
why does everyone think there are so many conspiracies happening in summer swim? At our pool kids are just thrown in by whomever shows up in clerk of course at the same time. This is typically with their friends. The volunteers aren't picking out "special" kids to give an advantage or disadvantage. |
It’s always a conspiracy if there’s no touch pads, ladder, meet mobile, psych sheets with times, streaming, etc |
