Panama is trying to play both sides against the middle. This situation is quite similar to the one with Germany. Germany wanted a cozy relationship with Russia in order to have cheap energy, and in the process, they gave Russia a foothold into central Europe via the pipeline.

Trump repeatedly warned Germany off of its Russia ties, pressured it to increase ties with NATO, etc. At the time, it was a scandal. Now everyone sees it's right.

Remember that pipeline blew up? It'd be a shame if something like that happened in Panama. No one wants that.

Now, try to focus on these issues and don't give a lazy response like "Trump loves Russia!" Because everything I wrote about how it went down with Germany is widely available information that you can Google.

We should not wait for the situation with China in Latin America get so out of control that explosions happen. We will do things a lot more offensive than a mean tweet in that case.

The Panama Canal is the transport mechanism for huge amounts of American goods, and US companies and consumers stand to gain a lot from evening the playing field. You really haven't provided an answer to any of this beyond "nuh uh" and "your dumb" and lots of cuss words. But these are indeed serious issues that the US has been tracking for quite some time.

The playing field isn't uneven. The U.S. isn't being treated unfairly. Trump may regret that the U.S. turned the canal over to Panama but he has no actual recourse.

We have quite a bit of recourse at this stage. But if we wait, while China gets more entrenched and sets up military bases, we will lose the ability to set the situation back to its prior status. The time to strike is now, while the situation between Panama and China is still nascent and fragile. Not when China has gained strength and Panama has more to lose by backing off of their relationship.

Yes, there are reports that China has discussed building military bases with various latin american governments.

I certainly hope we cut ALL trade and diplomatic (and aid!!) ties with any country in South America that allows a Chinese military base.

Then I’d expect you’d be fine with China cutting diplomatic and economic ties with any nation with a Us military base. Germany, Greece, Japan, S Korea, Spain….

I would love for China to cut diplomatic and economic ties with those nations. That would be an outstanding development for the US.

Panama has had a drought, water is expensive.
The increase in fees is justified and the long line of ships waiting to cross is just a symptom of the water shortage.
