If you people think Hayfield players care what your random child thinks bout then, I have a bridge to sell you. They want to play football in college. Nothing else. |
Good colleges won’t consider prospects from teams tainted by a cheating scandal. Maybe colleges that are desperate for football players, but no respectable ones. |
I was at the game, too. Hayfield has 12 players over 6 feet and 200 lbs. Their biggest players are 6’ 6” 279 lbs, 6’ 285 lbs, 3 @ 6’ 1” 260 lbs, and 4 who are 6’ 1” and 240 lbs. Edison has 5 players over 6’ and 200 lbs., their biggest player is 6’ 3” 245 lbs. These are their stats on Hudl. Hayfield also has about twice as many players as Edison. The game was very unsafe. Lots of late hits (that weren’t called by the refs). The fact there were no serious injuries is a testament to Edison’s players and pure luck. Edison beat Lewis 49-0 last week. They will be bludgeoned by Hayfield. Lewis is a tiny, young team with inexperienced players. They should not play Hayfield. Mark my words, there will be a serious injury at that game. |
OK Coach Overton, how is this about race? The racial makeup of the schools and teams is similar. Sneaking in illegible players and rigging the system to play smaller teams in order to get your player stats up isn’t really “building a powerhouse.” It’s cheating. |
Thank for you putting that into perspective. So Hayfield beat Edison 70-6, Edison beat Lewis 49-0, and Hayfield is scheduled to play Lewis next month? If there is a serious injury at that game, Michelle Reid should be shown the door the same weekend. Seriously, she should locked out of Gatehouse by the following Monday. |
Most of Edison’s star players last year were seniors. The seniors this year were the last to play in flag football together before covid shut it down. So the new players on the team are inexperienced. |
Not when coaches are rigging the system and bringing on players who, in essence, push your team into a different division. |
How was he ineligible? I’m curious how it’s known because FCPS and Reid tried very hard to say that the identities of the 9 ineligible students should be kept private. So my question is, if no one knows who they are, how does anyone know if they are playing at games or not? |
Hayfield was actually in the more competitive Liberty District with larger Yorktown, W-L, Madison, South Lakes, Langley, etc., about 8-10 years ago (2010s). Then they left to play schools in the National District (with smaller more inexperienced teams) which was more at their level. So Hayfield is not playing the likes of Lewis (former Lee), Falls Church, Stuart (former Justice), Annandale, etc., just to run up stats. They’ve been in the National District for about 8 years or so (and I think the resurrected Gunston District for a portion of that timeframe). |
That's a trip down memory lane. At least the last version of the former Gunston District included TC Williams (now Alexandria City) and West Potomac. The idea of the juiced-up Hayfield playing Lewis this year cries out for intervention. |
This one was particularly high profile because he was a D1 college commit. He did not play in any game prior to last night and then caught a TD last night. |
Yes, a couple starters from last years varsity team from Hayfield still start this year |
He was cleared on Wednesday. |
They are standing on the sidelines with street clothes. |
Many Power 5 schools were visiting Hayfield during the off season in the spring. |
