Trayon White Arrested by FBI

Anonymous
Re-set the “ Days since a council member has been arrested” calendar.

What are the odds his constituents re-elect him anyway?

Pretty high, I’d say.

We are actually moving from the city due to how it's been run into the ground the last few years. But it's all been so elaborately virtue-wrapped. I'd like to know clearly what is alleged to have happened in this incidence (no doubt, just the tip of the iceberg in our governance).

DC spends millions on violence interrupter programs that have zero oversight and are of dubious efficacy (the city publishes few statistics to show if they're actually reducing crime, and academic studies have shown that they don't).

In that hands-off environment, corruption flourishes. One person who operates one of these VI programs pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges. In exchange for a reduced sentence, he told the FBI that he was bribing Council member Trayon White and could get it all on tape. Which he did. White took thousands of dollars in bribes and paid vacations in exchange for making sure the informant got city contracts. The feds arrested him and he faces a lengthy prison term.

Violence interrupter programs are nothing more than slush funds for politicians to hand out money to their friends (and apparently to themselves).

Wow..well thank you for that summation. The cynicism of this "violence interruptor" corruption, coming off the city wide carjacking, flash mob, and gun violence death toll of last year, is breathtaking.

We have no choice. Unless you vote in the primary, you’re faced with them running unopposed or equivalent. Even in the primary, they largely just carry on because no one understands the local choices. Not many care and those who do tend to be on the government teat. They have no term limits and no accountability.

The only hope is the voting reform, term limits and the Feds.

I'll take any bet, at any odds you like, if you'd like to wager that he won't be re-elected.

DC lets people in Jail vote now and one guy even won a local election while being a prisoner. Unfortunately, he might win again. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/elected-jail-dc-official-advances-voting-rights-racial/story?id=78993840

If you follow DC news at all it was easy to figure out it was life deeds based on the arrest affidavit... it's the only shelter provider that lost its contract for falsified background checks on employees.

I can’t believe people are defending him. He is literally on camera stuffing cash in his pockets. How stupid are his constituents?

I for one am happy to see one of the many grifting criminals who run this city actually held accountable for his crimes.

It’s not like White is the first to be held accountable. There are like a half a dozen DC council members who have been convicted.

Plus our “beloved mayor for life.”

Yeah he got convicted of stuff when he was a councilmember too.

Many of them see him as a role model and aspire to his lifestyle.
