DC spends millions on violence interrupter programs that have zero oversight and are of dubious efficacy (the city publishes few statistics to show if they're actually reducing crime, and academic studies have shown that they don't).

In that hands-off environment, corruption flourishes. One person who operates one of these VI programs pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges. In exchange for a reduced sentence, he told the FBI that he was bribing Council member Trayon White and could get it all on tape. Which he did. White took thousands of dollars in bribes and paid vacations in exchange for making sure the informant got city contracts. The feds arrested him and he faces a lengthy prison term.[/quote]

Wow..well thank you for that summation. The cynicism of this "violence interruptor" corruption, coming off the city wide carjacking, flash mob, and gun violence death toll of last year, is breathtaking. [/quote]
