Prime example of why it’s a joke.

The VI who got shot got a five-year Charles Allen Youth Act sentence for his role in a homicide in 2018. Under DC law, he was not allowed to possess a handgun, yet was in possession of one while working as a city-paid VI. He also had been arrested for having counterfeit tags earlier this year (naturally, that charge was pleaded away despite his past involvement in a homicide).

Vehicle licensing and registration are inequitable. Minorities can't get time off to spend their day at DMV taking care of administrative bs.

It’s done online.

Not everyone has access to the internet or a phone you know.

Vehicle licencing is still inequitable and racist.

So-called “violence interrupters are pathetic and ineffective. And now we know from Trayon’s case, the program is also corrupt.

Bring back the police!

We haven't tried real violence interrupters. The program could still work. Throw some more money at it.

I take it you’re being sarcastic, but there is a grain of truth here. The Bowser administration (and, to be fair, its recent predecessors) has really cornered the market in taking good ideas and doing them really badly. Streetcars would be fantastic, but the implementation was so abysmal that there is no real hope of DC getting any further mileage in the near future. Likewise, the bike lanes - good idea, but scattered across the city in apparently random locations not so much. Housing vouchers for the homeless are not a bad idea, but yet the administration screwed the pooch. Hiring cronies and hacks might be good politics for Bowser, but really screwed over the city.

- except “violence interruptors” are a fundamentally unworkable and entirely ineffective idea.

The entire premise is fatally flawed. Why waste more money on something which does not work ?

Similar concepts seem to be working a charm in Baltimore and Detroit: https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/09/29/us/us-violent-crime-rates-down-dg

”In the first half of 2024, the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) has seen double-digit reductions in gun violence, including a 36% decrease in homicides and a 30% decrease in non-fatal shootings. During this time, the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) clearance rates for homicides has improved to 70.1%, an increase of 24% from this time last year.”

Crime rates are decreasing because they are putting more violent criminals and murders in jail. This has nothing to do with violence interrupters. 1% of the population commits more than half of all violent crime. If you throw them in jail, crime will go down significantly.

The new States Attorney is serious about being tough on crime. The old States Attorney was a criminal.

Says a lot about HIS constituents not the “people”. He’s their council member “for now”.

I voted for Kamala. This morning I’m reflecting on the loss and consoling myself
Stocks up, taxes down
Council -> out
Trayon -> prison
Carjackers -> jail
ATVs -> out
Allen and Nadeau -> try to get a job
Not so bad after all

You would overturn the mandate of the electorate?
