Who are these hyper-sheltered 11-year old boys without special needs who simply cannot be alone?

My 11-year old rides metro alone, works small jobs for pocket money, and goes to the grocery store to get milk or pasta or whatever I forgot. He would die of embarrassment if someone suggested he goes to change in the women's room. Good lord.

I want to know who these hyper-sheltered mothers are who think that the only special needs are visible.

I'll also point out that many people believe that my trans nephew should not be allowed in the men's room, and that a casual observer would assume he has male DNA.

I send my 6YO DD into the women's room by herself, so I can't for the life of my image why someone 5 years older couldn't.

Because mens changing rooms at pools is more apt to attack pervs, and their target demographic is boys that age.

How about the mom accompanied the kid into the men’s locker room?

Bingo. Pervs don’t originate organically either.

My 11 year old grandson and I went to a movie last Sunday. I didn’t feel the need, nor did he ask me, to escort him to the men’s room. I did wait just outside the door and I did keep track of time but he was fine. My 8 year old granddaughter also goes solo into ladies rooms and isn’t nervous about it. The kids know I’m there.

Close a stall door and mind your own danged business.

An 11 yr old, who is not SN, should not be brought into women's changing room at pool or restroom in a public place. Personally, I do not even thing a SN 11 yr. old boy should be in women changing room or rest room.

I don't think these are the same.

I wouldn't blink leaving my 10-year old outside a bathroom at our country club alone but I'd feel different if I were in the NYC subway.

Do you have any facts or data to back this up, or are you just expressing your own feelings?

Just google locker room assaults.

OK, great. Then simply come to the gym or pool in whatever you need to wear there, proceed directly to the pool or gym, and leave afterward and go home to shower.

I’m a lifelong swimmer and there’s literally no “need” to use the locker room. If you can’t handle it, simply don’t use it. The end.

+1 and agree with PP that not all special needs are immediately obvious

No, you’re not doing the “best you can,” when you have the option to simply change into your swim suit or whatever at home and arrive ready to walk directly through to the pool or gym. THAT is the best you can do. Again, lifelong swimmer who knows there is no reason you “have” to use the locker room at all, you can simply be changed already and walk through. And you can shower at home.

Obviously they have locker rooms for people to use whether you like it or not MYOB
