Not gonna happen.

As someone who had to cross Connecticut Avenue to get to school every day in the 90s I would have been THRILLED if there was a way to get commuters to actually stop for kids crossing. Would have loved it if the guy who called me a whore for trying to cross the street when I was 14 and it as raining out would have gotten a ticket for not yielding.

Go to the traffic light cross walk. Not the middle of the stretch.

PP you are replying to. Are you implying that if if a middle school student is crossing in a marked crosswalk at an intersection where there was no light that it was OK for a MD driver to call her a whore? What in the ever-loving heck is wrong with drivers? The law is that you yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, whether there is a light there or not. Are you next going to come back with "would you rather be right or dead?" Because that is the classic victim-blaming, goal post-moving argument by drivers when pedestrians try to assert their rights.

This happened 30 years ago- I am clearly not dead, and it was clearly not OK for someone to scream at me and call me names for doing something well within the bounds of the law. I would like kids to both live AND be able to safely cross without being yelled at by deranged drivers.

No one said that except you with some Wash dc story decades ago.

Maybe it was what you were wearing or some drunk guy.

Cross multi lane commercial roads at your own peril. Not the legal semantics sword to die in. A little common sense goes a long way folks!

DP. I think it's quite relevant to a thread about drivers who fail to obey laws related to school transportation safety, and then complain about it.

Ah, so that old standby comes out- "might makes right." If someone is killed crossing a road it is the victim's fault.
