Wooten and Walter Johnson are the lesser W schools and it reflects in the home prices.

Now Wooten and Walter Johnson Might be fantastic schools but that does not reflect in real estate prices.

We relocated here, too, looked all over, including the W schools. We chose RM for IB and for its diversity. We moved from a wealthy area, like Whitman, and didn't like what we saw. We didn't want our kids surrounded by that kind of wealth and entitlement. RM isn't perfect by any means, but the IB magnet has been great for our DC.

You mean you didn't like the real estate prices. Isn't RM having lots of issues with violence? Yikes and good luck with that.

No more than any other high-school and RM has better overall SATs and college outcomes.

Thanks to IB kids. When IB kids avg is more than 700pts higher than non-IB kids, that happens.

RM has roughly 600 students per grade. What percent of students in each grade at RM are at RM because of the IB magnet program and otherwise would not be at RM?

It's about 550 per grade, and about 100 from outside the cluster. So, roughly 20% per grade. But as a PP stated, RMIB is mostly Asian Americans, and actually, there are quite a few RMIB students not from W clusters.

MCPS provided the information by demographic cohort by school. RMIB is roughly 60% Asian. The average SAT for 132 Asians who took the SAT at RM that year was 1265. RMIB is roughly 20%-25% white. The average SAT for the 110 whites was 1270. My point is this doesn't seem to have a significant impact. I can crunch the numbers if we have an average for the magnet, but the ballpark is maybe 20 points.

That makes no sense. IB kids consider anything less than 1500 a failure or automatic retake. I don’t know any IB kid in 1200/1300 range. It just doesn’t happen. Other IB parents please chime in.

You seem to agree with the PP then because they're saying that despite the higher scores in the IB program they have little impact on the overall school scores especially groups that aren't Asian.

Makes sense to me. The county's data shows an average of 1270 for white kids at RM which is barely higher for the same group at Wootton and given the demographics of the IB, mostly Asian, it's unlikely to have had much impact on the average...

+1 I agree.

Less than 1500 might be considered a "failure" by RMIB students, but it does happen. 1200s? Now, I would be shocked if that happened. Not sure about 1300s.

1200/1300 doesn’t happen w/ IB kids. It simply doesn’t. My kid - middle of pack in IB - retook 1540. Not saying that was smart but it’s just the way it is.

I remember seeing the average for Blair SMCS was something like 1530 so guessing RMIB is something similar.

Yeah that makes sense. No magnet kids around 1000-1100 makes perfect sense too.

Happy to but I need the median score for students in RMIB. If you know that 180 students average 1270 but 10 of the 180 from that demographic were in RMIB and had an average of 1520 then it's simple 7th-grade math to determine the score for the other 170. It's likely something similar to Wootton's average which was around 1260.

I used 1520 since I saw in Silver Chips that Blair SMCS had an average of 1530 a few years ago.
