RM has roughly 600 students per grade. What percent of students in each grade at RM are at RM because of the IB magnet program and otherwise would not be at RM?

It's about 550 per grade, and about 100 from outside the cluster. So, roughly 20% per grade. But as a PP stated, RMIB is mostly Asian Americans, and actually, there are quite a few RMIB students not from W clusters.

MCPS provided the information by demographic cohort by school. RMIB is roughly 60% Asian. The average SAT for 132 Asians who took the SAT at RM that year was 1265. RMIB is roughly 20%-25% white. The average SAT for the 110 whites was 1270. My point is this doesn't seem to have a significant impact. I can crunch the numbers if we have an average for the magnet, but the ballpark is maybe 20 points.

Yes, but those numbers include IB kids. You need to take those kids out by using IB profile sheet and RM profile sheet from school's website. Links were provided above.

So for the largest demographic cohort common to Wootton and RM, page 8 shows RM has an average SAT score of 1270 whereas Wootton is 1262. Using demographics as a proxy for SES differences provides a more nuanced comparison.

Good to see that RM stacks up and exceeds Wootton for demographics that are only a small portion of the magnet.

That is my point. Some people are assuming that without the RMIB students, the SAT scores would be much much lower, but my point is that there are several RMIB students who live IN the cluster, so, that RMIB SAT score in the doc doesn't mean much. If you compare in cluster to in cluster students, you'd have to include the about 20 kids in RMIB who also live in the RM cluster.

Only MCPS could number crunch it. No one else has enough data to distinguish between RMIB in cluster and RMIB not in cluster.

Well, when you look at it from IB vs non IB standpoint, the scores for non IB kids are indeed much lower. Maybe your point is if MCPS eliminates IB from RM, RM's SAT score would go up (since there is no IB). That I agree. How much? Not much. It's about 550 per grade, and about 100 from outside the cluster. So, roughly 20% per grade. But as a PP stated, RMIB is mostly Asian Americans, and actually, there are quite a few RMIB students not from W clusters.

MCPS provided the information by demographic cohort by school. RMIB is roughly 60% Asian. The average SAT for 132 Asians who took the SAT at RM that year was 1265. RMIB is roughly 20%-25% white. The average SAT for the 110 whites was 1270. My point is this doesn't seem to have a significant impact. I can crunch the numbers if we have an average for the magnet, but the ballpark is maybe 20 points.

So, to summarize, RMIB 1500, Wootton 1230, RM w/o magnet ~1000 give or take a few points.

Regular portion is performing about 200pts lower than Wootton per school links provided.

"regular" portion includes some kids in RMIB who also live in the RM cluster. I know a few of those kids who scored 1540+.

The figures don't care where kids are from or live. The distinction is IB vs non-IB regardless their home address.

Some people are assuming that without the RMIB students, the SAT scores would be much much lower, but my point is that there are several RMIB students who live IN the cluster, so, that RMIB SAT score in the doc doesn't mean much. Maybe your point is if MCPS eliminates IB from RM, RM's SAT score would go up (since there is no IB). That I agree. How much? Not much.
