South Dakota forcing trans kids to detransition

I spent thousands of dollars at the best clinics and hospitals, only to be gaslit and lectured at when I explained my issues, and never medicated properly, and left to discover ON MY OWN that I likely had ADHD and was on the autism spectrum.

For my doctors it was just about making money off of me. Keeping me on the hamster wheel where I would need them. Gaslighting me because it's easier to project onto me rather than actually look at me.

It's like I've been sabotaged my whole life by profit-driven psychopaths who never effing cared about me.

I'm very raw right now and need to go lie down. This thread has been a damn revelation.

I’m the neurodivergent woman who wrote the post about the misogyny in the trans movement, and I feel you. I don’t know what to say other than you are not alone. I’m sorry this thread is bringing so much to the surface.

I was many things as a neuro-atypical and emotionally complex teen girl who did not conform, but what I was not and should never have been was a medical problem to be solved. And that’s what I believe a lot of these girls are seen as now: medical problems to be solved, with life-altering medical protocols.

We are talking about procedures that have life-long consequences when these people are minors and do not have the critical thinking or judgment to know the full effects of their decisions.

You know nothing about these kids but yet you feel confident in weighing in on their lives? I think maybe you should mind your own business. This is between the kid, their parents, and their doctor.

You obviously didn’t read the thread. Reasons for “weighing in” are valid when medical establishments cannot be trusted do do the right thing. There are some messed up parents out there, and I am not going to just mind my business when I see kids being exploited. You might do well to read the thread and read the comments from neuro-atypical individuals who have BTDT and know there are bad actors in the medical establishment.

And there are bad actors in the political establishment. This is an overcorrection.

Well intentioned people don't want to see kids harmed. That's fine. This is going too far and taking options away from kids who are suffering and doctors who are thorough and helping their patients.

Children can wait before taking hormones or having surgery. It's not life-threatening, there's time.

It often is life threatening. Dysphroria often leads to suicidal ideation.

Transition regret also leads to suicidal ideation. Which is why these kids should undergo extensive therapy before beginning medical treatments. But the current “affirmation-only” model of care doesn’t allow for that.

Wanting to commit suicide because of your body is a mental illness. Not a body illness.

Please backup the assertion that the prevalence of transition regret leading to suicidal ideation is at all on par with that caused by dysphoria. You're making things up.

The lack of therapy in many cases can be addressed. It's not necessary to ban everything. Noem and SD Republicans are treating kids as political pawns.

If you really think the relationship between being trans and mental health can be explained in 16 words that speaks volumes.

And few of us are even talking about surgery. Most of us are advocating for blockers and hormones. But if we were talking about surgery...

"there is an extremely low prevalence of regret in transgender patients after GAS"

Most of the people here posting that they don't want children to transition would still disagree with their adult children transitioning.

There are other ways we should be helping people with gender dysphoria besides making them lifelong medical patients.
I sympathize with those who are not at peace in their bodies. But sympathy and wanting the best for someone does not mean I have to jump into that hole with them.
