We are new to the county and applied because we thought it had a great reputation - can you give a little detail please?

It does have a great reputation. Ignore that poster.

Blair envy and sour grapes are very common maladies here.

Looking at the program it does not have enough computer science and the math track is not impressive post calculus. I’ve heard a lot of issues with several teachers. I don’t like the extra class and lack of elective choices.

Come 11th/12th grade it’s All magnet electives! Math : after calc, there is applied statistics, linear algbebra, discrete math, logic, etc… tons of science, what? You clearly have no idea!

What are the good grades. My all a student with high map was waitlisted.

It sounds like CAP doesn't have a high regard for the Eastern program, going outside to private school students instead.

On the contrary, CAP always contains a large group of students who attended Eastern’s magnet program. But CAP is not, nor should it be, Eastern 2.0. The administrators have been making an effort to diversify the program in many ways, and this includes drawing students from middle schools throughout Montgomery County. Certainly a lot of accepted students will be from Eastern, but there’s no guarantee that attending the middle school magnet gives you entrance into CAP. Which is a good thing.

Just a clarification that CAP only draws from students attending DCC middle schools (or who live in that catchment area but were at private middle schools).

My child was rejected from there. However, we did not apply! Keep on keep in’ on, MCPS!

Any private schoolers or homeschoolers admitted to PHS? Mine is waitpool for GE and no for SMCS. I’m honestly surprised at that particular turn of events. I think he would be a better fit for SMCS than GE. He’s already in Alg 2 and high school science.

PP here, and you’re right— thanks for clarifying.

Neat.

Hear me out: I actually think this could be a blessing. My kid isn't into lab science or research so I was worried about SMAC for them, even though they wanted it. I love the idea of a humanities focused education with reading and writing and interesting media, and since they are already on advanced math/sci track they can really take advantage of those electives at Blair. It would make for a very well-rounded experience I think. How do I convince them to do CAP and suffer the Drama class? Is CAP really super duper theater and literature focused? If so, that would not be a goo fit either.

Seems like it is a little random after a certain threshold.
