Magnet application result High School

My TPMS magnet kid is in at RM IB program, Blair magnet and waitlisted for CAP. No word from Wheaton engineering yet.

Which program is generally harder to get in to? Should I push him to even consider RM? Blair would be a much better commute and he’s set his sights in it because do have all his classmates but the IB program seems so more well rounded.

We got a no from RMIB and CAP. No wait list. Expected to get a no from RMIB (daughter is bright/straight As, high MAP-R, etc., but she's not the pressure cooker type to thrive at RM). Surprised about CAP, as she is well suited for that program and was even invited to a short 1-week "camp" last summer for 7th graders to get a taste of CAP. Still waiting on VAC at Einstein. That's the program she really wants and had the strongest application for.

MCPS really bundled this notification process, unsurprisingly .

Also, notification came to parent email, then student email 10 minutes later.

Got in RMIB and Poolesville global ecology. Haven't heard from the Poolesville SMAC programs.

Did any private school kid get into a Blair program?

Blair is better if your kid wants engineering track. RMIB was the first choice for our non-engineer kid because we felt the focus on analytical writing prepares so well for college (and that was the area in which he needed the most improvement). He will still do STEM track but will have balance with strong humanities classes. Really don’t think you can go wrong though, and commute is a significant factor. Let your kid decide.

Has anyone heard yet from the Kennedy program (IB) or Northwood (MC^2)?

Our teen is a private school and was accepted—we heard by parent email.

What are the good grades. My all a student with high map was waitlisted.

We are new to the county and applied because we thought it had a great reputation - can you give a little detail please?

It does have a great reputation. Ignore that poster.

Blair envy and sour grapes are very common maladies here.

Looking at the program it does not have enough computer science and the math track is not impressive post calculus. I’ve heard a lot of issues with several teachers. I don’t like the extra class and lack of elective choices.

It sounds like CAP doesn't have a high regard for the Eastern program, going outside to private school students instead.
