Overrated restaurants in the DMV

Anonymous
I hate to say it but a few places hyped up on Vienna Foodies. They get great reviews and I want to support them. We try them and it’s jus t like wait why was this hyped?

Kura Sushi at Gallery Place. Lines are so long. The wait is not worth it. The sushi is so expensive for what you get. It’s a novelty. Sushi is not good.

I think they are also opening in Rockville. Don’t do it. It sucks.

They were out of some menu items and the portions were huge and unappealing. The only good thing was the service. When it opened in Park Potomac, we went there frequently and it was fine. Not sure what’s going on.

Hate FF. So overrated. So expansive. Food is average at best.

Came her to agree with Rasiki-- went to West End last night and the food has gone way downhill. Chicken was so overbaked to be almost inedible!

Sushi Taro. It's high-rated, my Japanese friends take me there, but to me it's . . . OK.

Inn at Little Washington. Nice, but I don't get what all the fuss is about.

It seems like every restaurant in DC has been mentioned in this thread as "overrated." What, if any, DC restaurants are NOT overrated?

There are a ton of great restaurants in DC. None of them have been mentioned here. Start your own thread for recommendations, you’ll get a ton.

If you live in Westover or Cherrydale and this happens to be your neighborhood sandwich and pizza joint? Well, it’s pretty amazing to have one this good! It’s probably not a place to drive a half an hour or more for. We are in Westover and love it.

People in Arlington only think it is good because they have no competition. If you had the option to go to a real Italian deli like the ones in other parts of tge country, you would realize how overpriced and overhyped the Italian Store is.

I also agree Italian Store is too expensive for the quality.

The Italian Deli in N. Arlington is much better.

Are you talking about deli Italiano? Bc that place is vile.

After this review, is it really overrated? I've neither heard or read anything positive about it.

A bit of a hot take, but anytime you have to travel over an hour to get somewhere, it is tough to live up to the hype.

I think their regular menu is nothing special, but the Omakase at the sushi counter is what drives those ratings. It's great if you're looking for really unique offerings.

Exactly. It is really difficult for it to be overrated when it is so widely panned. Not sure why its still in business. Or is it?
