I don’t know much about Julie Yang, but as a voter, I will check her out.

Doesn’t matter to me how or why the information has come out. Voters deserve to know the facts and then make decisions for themselves.

Absolutely. Although a lot of this thread is not exactly what would qualify as "facts."

according to Joftus and Starr. But facts as defined by the truth. Fixed it for you.

Nice try, but no. This thread is a whole lot of opinions and accusations, along with a smattering of possibly-tangentially-relevant facts, which are evidence of nothing like what is being alleged.

I'm still interested to hear which other places in Montgomery County are similar to the Kid Museum, that could provide STEM activities for elementary and middle school students in a large space. Are there any? I'm honestly curious.

Really? In this area? There are a ton of organizations that would be able to do this. Plenty of STEM clubs and organizations that do field trips or come to schools to run programs.

No. There are none. There is nothing. It's only Montgomery County. Rural. Not connected to any science businesses or organizations. No educational opportunities. It is an educational desert. Only KID Museum can save us!

We had an awesome science truck come to our ES before Covid! Each class went in individually. I’d have to look up the name. But we have had several fantastic in-house field trips that are affordable and engaging. None of them had anything to do with the Kid Museum.

Our County Nature Centers are awesome! Great places for field trips and great hands-on activities.

And honestly, I would rather MCPS spend money on teachers and actual STEM materials for our MS classrooms than a place like Kid Museum that only wealthy students can access.

Talk about a lack of Equity.

The question is what's in the MOU between the County and the KID Museum for use of the space?

And why Twinbrook LLC gets almost a $5m profit in 3 years?

What am I missing here?

Wait. The former superintendent’s wife Emma Starr (Josh Starr) is the spokesperson for the KID Museum in addition to Joftus’s wife who runs it? I did not know about that nugget.

And Joshua Starr is on the KID Museum board of directors.

Why does it matter what boards Dr. Starr sits on? Or what his wife does? He hasn’t worked in MCPS for 8 years. He is a volunteer on the board anyway. But if you like nuggets, the Starrs are friends with the Joftus family. Their kids went to school together.

No way! No one would ever have suspected that Starr and Joftus are friends. Then Joftus' wife gets millions from MCPS and Montgomery County out of the blue. Amazing coincidence.

Joftus' wife gets $60K. But still a lot more than he gets on the BoE.

Why don't you do some research? You clearly would not take anything here as a fact, even if it could be easily verified.

Here's another fact you don't want to know. Joftus is endorsed by Starr. Not only Starr, but also Weast and Smith. The good old boy network is behind him. And his wife gets a no bid $2.4 annual payout from MCPS. And Starr sits on the wife's Board of Directors .

Why wouldn't I want to know that? Joftus is also endorsed by Jamie Raskin, Ike Leggett, Nancy King, the SEIU, and a host of others: https://joftus4boe.com/endorsements/

Can the county council come in and review this given they fund MCPS? If so, how can that be requested?

This just seems way off….

If you watch the youtube link from the meeting above, they explain it. It seems like much ado about nothing.

Thanks MCPS PR. Nice try. That $2.37M could have given every teacher in MCPS (over 11,600) an extra $200 this year. Teachers know they are being short changed. That’s why they’re turning to Facebook/Nextdoor/etc and asking the community to help them out.

Your "MCPS PR" bit is getting really old. Believe it or not, everyone doesn't share your opinions.

Well then tell the pr dept to cool it. We’re all sick of it.

Not really. More sick of the unhinged poster who tries to invent all these conspiracies that don't exist.

For people who approve of the money being spent, can you please explain to the non believers where the millions of dollars go? I think we would all feel better if we knew what is being done with the money.

How about for people who have an issue with this explain what exactly was unethical? We elected the board to make these decisions on our behalf. This was done by the book. End of story.

This is clearly someone affiliated with KM or the board. But seriously, how is the money being used??? So much waste in the county…

I'm curious who's behind the curtain at Twinbrook LLC and who their friends are? What was it - 4.5m in 3 years? That's a pretty sweet deal.

On 2019 calendar year tax returns, KiD museum paid one officer for $68k and no other person was paid salary. However, the travel cost was $32k, conference etc was 65K. It also paid $226K for consultants and contractors. Does anyone know who received this money? 226K is a lots of money.

Sure is. But when it’s taxpayer money, it’s easy to spend it freely.

At least MCPS tells you which company they hire for consultant job. kM doesn’t disclose to whom they paid $226 K.. does it go to a company owned by a board member? A relative or a fiend of MCPS?
