Sandra Doorley, the District Attorney who charged Jakubonis with second degree assault is a co-chair of Zeldin's campaign. Because the charge was second degree and not first degree, Jakubonis was eligible for release. So, I don't think the repeated attempts to blame Jakubonis' release on progressives are warranted. To the contrary, Zeldin's own campaign co-chair is to blame.

Is there a site where we can confirm that Doorley is the co chair? I checked Zeldin's campaign site, nothing. (shock)

Are you now shocked at how bad you are at checking for things?

Fox News types need to be spoon fed.

I am surprised that the bystanders who stepped in weren't charged with unlawful detainment, assault, and kidnapping.

I am struggling to figure out what difference it makes? She followed the law and charged the guy with a crime that should stick, rather than one that won’t. The charge carries a stiff penalty in the state of NY. She didn’t pen the no bail law; she had to make a hard decision because it exists - risk having him found not guilty of first degree, though there would be bail set or have him found guilty of second degree, knowing there would be no bail set. If she used her position as co-chair to railroad him into greater charges, THAT would be an issue for me.

You sound deluded. Other DAs state he could easily have been charged with a greater offence. Zeldin is using the attack - and hte quick rlelease - as a campaign issue and the DA who let the guy go just *happens* to be his campaign co chair? GMAFB

We shall see what the Feds find.

Charging to make a point and conviction are two different things. No one would pay attention to sentencing later on

+1 Oops.
“Doorley, who has recused herself going forward, never should’ve involved herself in the case. More to the point, she never should’ve endorsed a candidate for governor. Under the ethics guidelines of the District Attorneys Association of New York, “District Attorneys and their assistants may not endorse political candidates”

Has anyone asked why Jakubonis was drunk at an event for a politician he’d never heard of?

“I don’t see any evidence that she’s involved with the campaign.”

“Now that someone had to find the evidence for me I don’t see why it matters that she’s involved with the campaign.”

Gosh, Doorley and Zeldin don't seem to be able to remember accurately, who did what when? When did she become a campaign co chair? When did she decline to become one because it's an ethics violation? When did she recuse herself from the Jakubonis case? Her office says one thing, he says another. It's all so confusing!

Everyone can relax, Murdoch, I mean the New York Post, assures us this was all just a big coincidence. Any other interpretation is Ludicrous! I tell ya

I didn’t realize until last night that Doorley was actually at the rally where this happened and talked to Zeldin immediately after the attack.

Compared to MSNBC and CNN types, who are on IV’s.

Enough with the hyperbole, pp.

Lee Zeldin was not home. His two daughters were, however. I think if you had been in his shoes, it would be an incident that you also would find quite alarming.

A shooting right outside the front door of your home.... two people shot..... feet away from your daughters.

Yes, crime in NY is alarming and serious.
