What name did you want but got vetoed by your partner?

I still love that name.

I liked this name too, but it was the name of the affair partner of dh's first wife.

DH hates his last name (I kept my own name) so kids got my last name. Their middle name is R -- just R -- which represents DH's last name. We both vetoed each other's top 5 names. Our kids did not have a first name for the first 5 days of their life.

I vetoed old man names (Arthur, Harold) and names of people who have caused us significant harm (Charles, Richard, Robert, Melissa). My husband vetoed every name he considered too "weird" (Beatrice???) and any name that had even a slight negative assocation. There was almost nothing left. I love our kids' names but if left to my own devices I probably wouldn't have gone with ultra classic Biblical names.

Zoe.

Lots of other hippie names.

I know a Zion whom I met as toddler and I remember thinking, wow your family must be REALLY religious -- and they were (literally missionaries, etc.). I guess if you want to mark your kid, it works... but for me at least it really marked the kid.

I’m the PP and Zion was actually for the national park, not necessarily the religious meaning. It’s my husband’s favorite park and last name starts with a Z, so I thought it was awesome. Nope!

My husband wanted to name our son Ragnar. He really likes that Vikings TV show

We have two boys and I campaigned for Ansel each time and was firmly rejected.

H wanted more common names.

Theodore called Theo. DH said it sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks.

And his siblings, Shenandoah and Yellowstone.

Stella. Then when DD was a year we were at a family event and found out it was a great great grandmothers name. Then he regretted his dislike of it

A seal is a fricking cool name! My DH vetoed it as well (along with Silas).

Iris, Georgia, Vivian, Diana, Helena, and Elena

Roman, Asher, Milo, Miles, and Victor

My DH never came up with names, just vetoes. So I tried not to suggest names that I didn’t love. My misstep was Zara that he LOVED and I liked but wasn’t quite right.

Strangely, my son’s nickname on his ball team is Jennie!

Taking my husband’s last name (Taylor) ruined a lot of my favorite name choices too. No Elizabeth, Kelly, Andie. Even names like Tara and Tamara sound goofy with Taylor.

Ugh, same here. My married last name is Elliott and that knocked out all of my favorite names that end in -elle (which was pretty much all of my top choices).

My husband rejected:

Margaret- bc mean girl in elementary
Rebecca - ex girlfriend
Rachel- bc our last name starts with L
Mary- too old fashioned

(I love all these so much)
