Definitive Top 25 list

Debatable. Low acceptance rates do equal more academic/intellectual and hard working peer cohort and better alumni connections. Which is pretty much the recipe for post grad success.

Where would top tier SLACs land on this list -- Williams, Bowdoin, etc...

Northeastern is definitely top 15 at least, if not top 10. 90000 applications. Wow! Just wow.

I know there are folks who are jealous of NEU's success. But if you extrapolate their meteoric rise, I must say that they will be top 5 soon. Very very soon.

Just think about. Why is iPhone rated the best? It has highest number of people who shell out hard cash to buy it. Same with universities. Students are voting with their feet and with their (parent's) wallets to go to NEU. That should count the most in any rating. You can fake everything else (like Columbia recently did). But you can't fake actual student interest which is the real deal.

NEU is offering the best product out there. Few can compete.

If I added them Fairly, Amherst would be 23 and Williams 24 or 25.

Northeastern is more selective than both of them this year at 7%.

Acceptance rate is not counted at leat for the flagship ranking USN&WR any more.

Cool, as it should be but you still didn't answer the question. What makes ND better than Emory? Emory has top 5 grad programs. ND has none in the top 20.

This is undergraduate ranking

You refuse to answer the question. What makes ND better than Emory? Is it test scores? It's definitely not acceptance rate. Is it alumni respect? Wall Street placement? What is it? I'll tell you now Emory performs just as well or better on all these metrics.

Notre Dame has happier students. I think that impacts rankings, no? Also, Wall Street placement is pretty strong for ND if I recall. Also I like checking the Payscale ROI ranking, which has Notre Dame ranked at 80 and Emory at 150. https://www.payscale.com/college-roi Earning potential and graduation rate seem to be driving this...Emory with only a 90% graduation rate and ND with a 96% grad rate. I think ND students fare much better in general out in the world due to the outstanding alumni network that Emory most certainly lacks.

Also, you talk about acceptance rate...which does not impact rankings. ND's acceptance rate for class of 2026 was 13%. Emory's was 19%. Not that it matters, but not sure why you even bring this up.

Perhaps Top 15 in gaming the USNWR system. But as a school? Nope.

Not that I want to join the pointless exercise of trying to parse out which of two very strong schools is 'better', but it was shown long ago that lifetime earnings have nothing to do with where you went to college.

I think the payscale ranking is proof that as a whole, students who graduate from certain schools have stronger earning potential. It may not be the case for each and every student, but nothing in any of the rankings apply to all students.

Yes, students from certain schools earn more than students from other schools. But it's not BECAUSE they attended that college. It's because of who they are as a person.

Or...it is more expensive to live in NY or Boston or DC where most elite school graduates end up living and working.

Of course things are not exact science and math here, and better education is pretty subjective term.

However Law of Supply and Demand well applies here too.

Supply is fixed. Good product and good value increase demand.

Here, you can also easily see the quality of the consumers, too. and it gives you a good idea about the product and th value.

Is the acceptance rate high becasue of bunch of 1300 SAT kids applying or with 1500 SAT kids.

1.Harvard
1. tie MIT
3. Stanford
3. tie Yale
3. tie Princeton
6. Cal Tech
7. Columbia [got caught cheating on the US News Rankings survey so not exactly sure if they should be even lower]
8. UPenn
9. Duke
10. U Chicago
11. Dartmouth
12. Northwestern
13. Johns Hopkins
14. Brown
15. Cornell
16. Vanderbilt
17. Rice
18. Notre Dame
18. tie Berkley
28. tie Emory
21. Washington U
22. USC
23. CMU
24. Georgetown
25. UCLA

There is no valid "top 25" list that doesn't include Michigan.

Who do you cut from this list to allow Michigan?

1.Harvard
2.MIT
3.Stanford
4.Yale
4. tie Princeton
6. Duke
7. Cal Tech
8. Columbia
8. tie Johns Hopkins
8. tie Northwestern
11. U Chicago
11. tie UPenn
11. tie Brown
14. Dartmouth
15. Cornell
16. Vanderbilt
17. Washington U
18. Rice
19. Emory
20. USC
20. tie CMU
22.Notre Dame
22. tie U Michigan
22. tie UCLA
25. Georgetown
25. NYU
Michigan is there. All the top schools are here except Berkeley and UVA. You can argue UVA is tier two with UNC Gatech etc.

Problems with your list:
Duke too high at 6. Should be 8-10.
Johns Hopkins too high at 8. Should be 13-16.
Northwestern too high at 8. Should be 11-14.
UPenn too low at 11. Should be 6-8.
Brown too high at 11. Should be 13-15.
Dartmouth too low at 14. Should be 10-12.
Georgetown too low at 25. Should be 20-23.
NYU too high at 25. Should be 27-30.
Notre Dame too low at 22. Should be 17-20.
Wash U too high at 17. Should be 19-21.
