Ewwww. There was no chemistry. Season 2 was dreadful. Daphne and Simon were loads sexier and more fun. Kate and Anthony were just an awful combo. Even looked bad together.

+1 I said this before the season even started. Kate doesn’t match with Anthony at all. Horrible casting.

What are you people talking about? How should they “match?” They’re two hot young people. They look great together. I don’t find the romance compelling but it’s not because of how they look.

I agree, and think they matched just fine.

Eh, they don't look good together. She is broader in the shoulders then he is. He is too tiny for her.

Yes! She looks like a horse!

+1 Horse face.

How? Sarah Jessica Parker has horseface not this lady.

Her nose I doesn’t match her face. She needs a nose job.

Omg are these real thoughts that real people have? Earnestly enough to write them down and post them on the internet?

he wants a tame woman that he can control

Yes, plus, Kate is "on the shelf". In the book you know the mother isn't her real mother, but stepmother, which means she is not of noble birth and therefore less (if at all) acceptable. Edwina's mother is from a noble family, which makes her more acceptable to begin with.

I asked the question…I think this makes more sense. He was bored by all the other women, so the “taming” seems not quite right.

I think they are both very attractive.

I know. Plus she has a smoker’s voice. She looks way older than Daphne and is supposed to be a teenager??

How often are you around teenagers? I have a teen who reminds me of Eloise.

She does not have a smoker's voice. Who are you people? Tell us some demographic info because what I am imagining...

I think they are both very attractive.

If you were paying attention to what he was saying about what he wanted in his wife, you would understand that what he wants is a biddable, tame wife. Tame doesn't mean completely boring and dumb. He wants an intelligent woman to be the mother of his children, but also doesn't want someone he finds annoying to talk to.

This is a trope in these kinds of books (I read a lot of Regency romance novels). The men always say they want a cordial, emotionless marriage where she can produce the heir and spare -- a ton marriage.

People in the ton usually marry within the ton, and if he really cared about family stock, he would not marry a woman whose mother eloped with a nobody.

Remember, he does not trust "love" or emotions now after his last experience. So, he's looking for someone who is agreeable, will represent the viscount family well.

He doesn't want a woman who is not biddable or who challenges him, a bit like the opera singer.

NP and I got all of these plot points but then why was Kate allowed to take so much control of Edwina’s courtships? Why wasn’t her mother or Lady Danbury in charge? That’s what made me really dislike Kate.

That and the old trope of ‘I hate you when we first meet because I overheard you say sexist things’ to ‘now I love you’. It’s so overdone. But I find them both attractive. But Kate’s so boring.

Got it. I don’t read a lot of regency, but I see your point. I understand how his dad’s death affected him and the pressure it put in him, which didn’t allow him to grieve. Her sister was so dull, until she stood up for herself.

I think it's more that Edwina values her older sister's opinions the most, and it was the sister who guided her in India, not the mom, who is probably not as strong willed as Kate.

Completely disagree, she’s stunning and so much more interesting than Daphne was.

She is very pretty and very very bad in this role. Complete mis-cast, no chemistry, ridiculous story changes and horrible acting. UGH. Season 2 storyline is now atrocious. Book was great.

I actually like this season better. I only made it through S1 because the Duke was hot but that he would be so swept away by Daphne was so unbelievable to me. She was as interesting as a wet noodle and on top of that average looking. There was no chemistry between them. I think Kate is gorgeous and though she has an attitude problem at least she’s interesting and fun to watch.

The Viscount Who Loves Me was the only one of the books that I liked. In the book, Edwina doesn't really love the Duke, she wants something different, but she feels obligated to "save" her mother and sister by marrying the Duke. Kate wants true love for her sister, so she is protecting her by helping her NOT marry out of obligation. The Duke (in the book) is too much for the sister, who was very gentle and wanting a more gentle husband.

The scene in the show were she is overwhelmed in the Pall Mall game, speaks to that, but then in the series she very much wants him. This makes so much of the series not make sense, and makes Kate seem awful. I think this is a case of taking some popular elements of the book and not really understanding the trope well enough to change it and make it make sense.

Wow, now we can’t say someone of a different race is unattractive without jumping to racism?

On DCUM it seems racist. Bc posters on here love to call attractive POC ugly, weird looking, unattractive. But in the same breathe claim Kate Middleton, Taylor Swift and other average looking white women as gorgeous/stunning/beautiful. Daphne and Kate are the same level of attractiveness and yet no one is calling Daphne ugly, unattractive, weird looking. Even with Eloise who is plain looking, no one is calling her ugly. Just that she looks older and sounds like a smoker.

Totally agree. Just like the thread about Tom Hiddleston‘s POC wife. The comments were just as ridiculous.
