Totally. That comment about how they should have chosen Pryanka Chopra instead because she’s more “classically attractive”… how do you not interpret that comment as “they should have case an actress who looked closer to White?” I suppose it could just be a coincidence that they picked an Indian actress who could pass for white, but goodness. |
I really hope they jump to Colin and Penelope. Give me Polin! |
Totally, completely, 100% agree. This is why I stopped watching. Not interested in pretty-boy types and explicit sex scenes. |
+1 I said up thread, I couldn't get into that character because of him. He gives off gay vibes, and they had zero chemistry. I read a lot of those books, and his acting did not fit the character at all. |
I am the PP who said this. What I deleted was that she is an Indian actress who is more suited because she has a larger head. Look at most any successful actor and they have bigger heads, which translates better onto the screen. I think this Kate is beautiful, but not as well suited to the screen as some others. I never thought about Chopra as seeming more white. I just didn't want to use another actress that was of any other race than Indian. I should have just been oddly insulting but more specific, than to appear racist. |
but there wouldn't be much of a story if her mother were in charge... They always include conflict so the male lead and female lead have to go through trials to fall in love. Women are addicted to this. Men know this in real life. Go read about "negging". |
This is funny bc those sex scenes were not explicit. If you like ugly men just say that. |
Bigger heads? WTF? |
I read the book and I disagree. Maybe you just wanted the character to be white since he was in the book. |
Not PP but nope, not about race …give me a Denzel, an idris Elba, more hard edge, bad-a$$ that guy they cast was trying too be too fifty shades lol and I hated that casting too |
PP here, and that is bizarre, so bizarre in fact that I looked it up and it's true, bigger heads fill up the screen so they are preferable, lol. I still don't see how somebody can criticize the appearance of Simone Ashley, next to her I imagine we'd all look like 5s, but I do see what you mean about a smaller head. |
DP. I've never read the books and couldn't care less what race he is (though you clearly do). I simply didn't find him attractive. |
THIS ^^. And yet, it seems to be perfectly acceptable to be critical of the white characters' appearances - especially Daphne. That double standard is so curious. |
DP. Huh, you must have (conveniently) missed all the posts from Season 1 and some from this season, stating how "unattractive" Daphne is. And every single day we see posts calling white actresses/entertainers "ugly." In the same vein, there are tons of posts lauding the looks of POC. It's ridiculous to selectively single out criticisms of a POC while ignoring all the insults white women (and men) get on these forums. Quit falling back on "racism."
|
Oh, please. Most of those comments also dissed Hiddleston's appearance! Are you saying no one is allowed to call a POC unattractive?? Because that is patently absurd. There are just as many unattractive POCs as there are unattractive white people. No one deserves this special treatment you seem to want. |
