Ewwww. There was no chemistry. Season 2 was dreadful. Daphne and Simon were loads sexier and more fun. Kate and Anthony were just an awful combo. Even looked bad together.

+1 I said this before the season even started. Kate doesn’t match with Anthony at all. Horrible casting.

What are you people talking about? How should they “match?” They’re two hot young people. They look great together. I don’t find the romance compelling but it’s not because of how they look.

I agree, and think they matched just fine.

Eh, they don't look good together. She is broader in the shoulders then he is. He is too tiny for her.

Yes! She looks like a horse!

+1 Horse face.

How? Sarah Jessica Parker has horseface not this lady.

Her nose I doesn’t match her face. She needs a nose job.

Omg are these real thoughts that real people have? Earnestly enough to write them down and post them on the internet?

I agree the comments are a half step away from being racist. None of the guys are really hot other than from the first season but where are the comments about them?

Totally. That comment about how they should have chosen Pryanka Chopra instead because she’s more “classically attractive”… how do you not interpret that comment as “they should have case an actress who looked closer to White?” I suppose it could just be a coincidence that they picked an Indian actress who could pass for white, but goodness.

Benedict and his wife to be Sofie. It’s just okay.
Then Colin and Penelope, then Eloise, then Francesca (one of my favs), then Hyacinth (other fav), then George, and then Violet their mother, herself!

That’s IF they follow the book order. There’s been talk
that they might not.

I really hope they jump to Colin and Penelope. Give me Polin!

The facial hair, the perfect combed eyebrows, the way he was talking all affected just didn’t fit with my vision, not my type. I’m so surprised people think he’s hot.

Totally, completely, 100% agree. This is why I stopped watching. Not interested in pretty-boy types and explicit sex scenes.

+1 I said up thread, I couldn't get into that character because of him. He gives off gay vibes, and they had zero chemistry.

I read a lot of those books, and his acting did not fit the character at all.

I am the PP who said this. What I deleted was that she is an Indian actress who is more suited because she has a larger head. Look at most any successful actor and they have bigger heads, which translates better onto the screen. I think this Kate is beautiful, but not as well suited to the screen as some others. I never thought about Chopra as seeming more white. I just didn't want to use another actress that was of any other race than Indian. I should have just been oddly insulting but more specific, than to appear racist.

he wants a tame woman that he can control

Yes, plus, Kate is "on the shelf". In the book you know the mother isn't her real mother, but stepmother, which means she is not of noble birth and therefore less (if at all) acceptable. Edwina's mother is from a noble family, which makes her more acceptable to begin with.

NP and I got all of these plot points but then why was Kate allowed to take so much control of Edwina’s courtships? Why wasn’t her mother or Lady Danbury in charge? That’s what made me really dislike Kate.

That and the old trope of ‘I hate you when we first meet because I overheard you say sexist things’ to ‘now I love you’. It’s so overdone. But I find them both attractive. But Kate’s so boring.

but there wouldn't be much of a story if her mother were in charge...

They always include conflict so the male lead and female lead have to go through trials to fall in love. Women are addicted to this. Men know this in real life. Go read about "negging".

This is funny bc those sex scenes were not explicit. If you like ugly men just say that.

I read the book and I disagree. Maybe you just wanted the character to be white since he was in the book.

PP here, and that is bizarre, so bizarre in fact that I looked it up and it's true, bigger heads fill up the screen so they are preferable, lol. I still don't see how somebody can criticize the appearance of Simone Ashley, next to her I imagine we'd all look like 5s, but I do see what you mean about a smaller head.

DP. I've never read the books and couldn't care less what race he is (though you clearly do). I simply didn't find him attractive.

Wow, now we can’t say someone of a different race is unattractive without jumping to racism?

THIS ^^. And yet, it seems to be perfectly acceptable to be critical of the white characters' appearances - especially Daphne. That double standard is so curious.

On DCUM it seems racist. Bc posters on here love to call attractive POC ugly, weird looking, unattractive. But in the same breathe claim Kate Middleton, Taylor Swift and other average looking white women as gorgeous/stunning/beautiful. Daphne and Kate are the same level of attractiveness and yet no one is calling Daphne ugly, unattractive, weird looking. Even with Eloise who is plain looking, no one is calling her ugly. Just that she looks older and sounds like a smoker.

DP. Huh, you must have (conveniently) missed all the posts from Season 1 and some from this season, stating how "unattractive" Daphne is. And every single day we see posts calling white actresses/entertainers "ugly." In the same vein, there are tons of posts lauding the looks of POC. It's ridiculous to selectively single out criticisms of a POC while ignoring all the insults white women (and men) get on these forums. Quit falling back on "racism."

Totally agree. Just like the thread about Tom Hiddleston‘s POC wife. The comments were just as ridiculous.

Oh, please. Most of those comments also dissed Hiddleston's appearance! Are you saying no one is allowed to call a POC unattractive?? Because that is patently absurd. There are just as many unattractive POCs as there are unattractive white people. No one deserves this special treatment you seem to want.
