Somehow I doubt that. I don't go to Giant, but go to Costco or Whole Foods in Pentagon City and probably 99% of everyone is masked.

The issue with Youngkin is that it was a similar store. Everyone in that store was masked - with the exception of Youngkin and what may have been one or two of his aides. Clearly he has constituents who are still very much concerned about covid, and about the spread. He is being callously oblivious to their concerns. It is not a good look for him. It shows he does not care about his constituents' concerns, even when he is in a room where the very clear majority are masked.

Again, this is a your opinion. You are making up “rules” based on nothing but your feelings. There is no mandate and he is not breaking any actual rules. Frankly, he is practicing exactly what he preaches. As I mentioned upthread, this is all “crabs in a bucket” mentality. We need more people to break away from the groupthink. A lot of us are sick of being forced to pander to irrational and overly anxious people and it’s refreshing to see a leader with the guts to break the cycle.

“Break away from groupthink” is code for “act like a selfish jerk”. That is why I don’t take you seriously. It’s just a mask. It doesn’t hurt you at all. Get over it.

And yet, there’s nothing people like you can do to force me to wear a mask in a grocery store in Virginia, since there’s no mask mandate.

Sorry, your preferences don’t carry any power.

I remember you guys saying that “you aren’t against masking, just mandates” but yet when there are no mandates then you still won’t wear a mask since it isn’t mandated. The only consistent POV that you guys are pushing is not to do anything about covid since you have decided that you are personally ok with the risk. You are completely transparent.

You have reading comprehension issues. I’m not opposed to masks- if you want to wear one, I certainly don’t want to stop you. I’m opposed to mask mandates, not people having the right to choose to wear one.

You do realize there’s a middle position between something being banned and mandated, right?

You don’t seem to realize that the middle position is actually wearing a mask even when not mandated since masks reduce the spread of a virus that has killed 900,000 people in this country alone.

Because many of us got covid, it wasn’t a big deal, and we’re moving on with our lives. The fear is gone. I’m vaccinated and boosted, and had covid less than 60 days ago. I’m done, and don’t see any point in continued masking to do what, exactly? Protect people who can’t be bothered to vaccinate themselves?

People at risk for serious illness have had a year to get vaccinated. I’m done worrying about people who aren’t worried about themselves.

Many who also got Covid were unable to move in with their lives and many still are still dying from Covid.

Your attitude has been called out as selfish and this exemplifies that point. There are people who likely caught and died from Covid thanks to this attitude and unwillingness to wear masks or get vaccinated.

Shrug. Mask mandates are starting to fall like dominoes all over the country. I live in Virginia, and can’t remember the last time I put on a mask.

You can call me whatever you want, I don’t care. If you expect people to keep wearing masks to make you less anxious, that’s a you problem. It has nothing to do with me. People are going back to normal. You’ll need to learn to accept that.

LOL. It doesn’t make me anxious but it does tell me who YOU are. I already know you are self centered. You’re the guy parks in two spaces, leaves the shopping cart out in the parking lot, leaves food on random shelves in Walmart because you changed your mind, cuts in at the last minute in a traffic jam, doesn’t silence the phone in the theater, takes their shoes off on the plane, Thinks CRT is bad, doesn’t think Jan 6 was bad, thinks mask wearing is a choice but books should be banned if you don’t like what it says or uses words you don’t like. When i see you not wearing a mask this is who I think you are.

They just don’t care.

You’re right. I don’t care about the health decisions others make for themselves. I think you folks who moralize this whole thing are crazy. Every one of you has spread bacteria and viruses your entire lives. You have no way of knowing if your germs led to someone’s death or suffering. But it’s obviously not practical to sustain this kind of hyper vigilance forever. So people assess risk and make their own choices as they need to. Just because you over-perceive risk doesn’t make everyone else morally lacking.

Yes, we know you don’t give a shit about others. You keep explaining it as if we are not aware of that fact. Regarding germs: I have always taken appropriate action to limit the spread of my own infection. I kept my kid home from school, I got a flu shot, I wash my hands before preparing food, I wear flip flops in public showers… I can keep going. You are the one acting like our personal decisions do not matter to anyone else. That is simply not true despite your desperate attempts to justify your selfish actions. It is a moral issue when masks cost you nothing but can help spare another person death or major life disruption.

No, the middle position is that people should be free to wear a mask or not, based on their personal risk decisions. That’s also my position on vaccines. I’m 46, and I got a vaccine because the health benefits are significant enough to be worth it. If I was 25, I doubt I would have bothered (much like I typically didn’t get the flu vaccine at that age).

Every person has the ability to achieve a high level of protection through vaccines and, if they want, wearing one of the effective types of masks. If you do that, you don’t have to worry about my unmasked breathing, or even the breath of unvaccinated people. Personally, I’m fine with the protection afforded me by the vaccine, and don’t see the point of wearing a mask. So, I don’t.

There are no desperate attempts, my PP is simply what I believe the non-mask wearing person to be. I noticed you didn’t deny any of the observations I listed and you seem to think that stating that I think of others is some inherent weakness or insult.

Okay. Like I said, knock yourself out. You’re free to believe what you want. It’s still a free country. And, if I really did believe all of those things, do you think I’d care that some DC area liberal disapproved of me?

Maybe stop worrying so much about what people are doing and thinking around you. You can only control your actions.

Why are you not fighting against government mandated health codes like hand washing by restaurant employees? How can you reconcile mandates like that with your anti-community health screed above?

That’s who you are and you are free to be that person.

Why are there laws against smoking cigarettes in public when a concerned person could simply wear a respirator to avoid the smoke? Seriously, I would love an explanation!

Because those health codes apply to specific employees in specific workplaces. There’s no general requirement that you keep chicken in the bottom drawer of your fridge at home (though it’s a good idea). In certain limited circumstances and situations, things like vaccine mandates and mask wearing may be warranted. But a general mandate for either of those things? That’s unprecedented in American history.

Thankfully, American support for these types of mandates is steadily evaporating. Certainly, a general vaccine mandate is deader than disco, thanks to the Supreme Court.

They aren’t rules, they are a courtesy, like putting the shopping cart away, returning unwanted items where they belong in a store, parking in one spot.

These aren’t rules, just things people with the slightest bit selflessness are able to do with ease.

To you, I’m not worth the courtesy of the mask because it inconveniences you.

I can’t help you with the way you choose to view other people. You seem to enjoy making up elaborate stories in your head about people you don’t even know. It’s obvious wearing a mask is a big part of who you are, regardless of the availability of vaccines, boosters, etc. It simply isn’t for others. I really don’t know what else to tell you.

Okay. Like I said, knock yourself out. You’re free to believe what you want. It’s still a free country. And, if I really did believe all of those things, do you think I’d care that some DC area liberal disapproved of me?

Maybe stop worrying so much about what people are doing and thinking around you. You can only control your actions.

You seem to be struggling with the point, I don’t care if you get sick, I don’t care if you die from Covid. I am just stating the type of person I see when I see someone not wearing a mask. It is your choice and it is likely that you leave the shopping cart free in the parking lot, cut people off at the last minute, use your phone in the theater, etc.

That’s who you are and you are free to be that person.

Does making up scenarios about other people based on one article of clothing, or the lack thereof, strike you as a rational thing to do?
