Yes, but I’m not going to fight students and parents on it. That’s above my pay grade.

Teacher

This is why we have admin and the main office.

What are teachers supposed to do if kids are uncomfortable with unmasked students? Put those kids in a corner? Ugh, I am dreading this as a teacher.

Not in a corner, but I’ll update my seating chart for sure.

Right. Above my pay grade.

Dang. I didn’t think he was stupid enough to actually do it.

MFer shouldn’t mess with the health of our kids.

I’m not sure why people are surprised - he openly stated that was what he was going to do. ((Sigh))

Whether I agree or disagree with the EO, it’s another controversy to add to my list of reasons supporting early retirement.

DP
True. I expected it. I didn’t expect the opt-out part.

But what if it is one/two kids? Do you put them in the back together?

Thanks for posting that (how did you find it? I clicked on everything on the gov website and nothing leads to it)

It does not lay out any procedure, form, etc for opting out. And it says that no reason has to be provided by the parent. So I think that there is no way for FCPS to prevent a bunch of kids showing up maskless as early as Tuesday

The link is given on the Nick Iannelli twitter linked earlier.

Why not?

And as of right now - FCPS said they’re requiring masks.

With the state-wide mandate FCPS School Board and/or administration really did not have to make a decision, just say this is mandated by the Commonwealth.

I have not read the executive order, but sounds as if school boards may still impose the mandate – but perhaps parents can opt their children out in some way. One would have thought FCPS would have had ready and communicated their plan having two months since the election to make a decision about keeping the mandate in place for FCPS or not. And if an opt out, which I was not aware was going to be part of the order was to be an option, how that opt-out would be implemented.

Have they done so? I do not know. I do not think so. Maybe I missed something, but what is the “rule” starting on Tuesday assuming school is in session?

FCPS released a statement saying that they would continue to mandate masks, even when/if Youngkin changes it. They even quoted SB1303 saying that the bill requires “full adherence to mitigation strategies”…oh the irony. 😊

The word mask won’t be anywhere in that document! Hopefully, he will also eliminate quarantining if healthy people!

But how will that address this opt-out thing that Youngkin says he is instituting?

VA Dept of Health is issuing new school guidance this week. Maybe masks won’t be listed as a mitigation strategy.

LOL, that is highly unlikely.

It is ridiculous that teachers will have to even deal with this BS. This will just continue adding on to the teacher shortage.

But if I understand the EO correctly, it doesn’t matter what FCPS requires—parents can opt out. And there’s no procedure or process for opting out. It’s as simple as just sending your kid maskless

Students will still have to wear masks on school buses, by federal order.
