If your church's doctrine says homosexuality is a sin, but your DC is gay

I don't believe evangelicals are known for supporting the gray community. Neither are MAGA Catholics.

I question whether either are actually Christians!

MAGA has hijacked Christianity like ISIS hijacked Muslim religion. Amazing how easily hate becomes God's word.

I didn’t see them for 10 years (their choice) and then we slowly started seeing each other again as they aged and their health waned.

And by slowly I mean once a year for a long weekend where my wife, kids, and I stay at a nearby hotel and never their house.

They FaceTime my kids on Xmas and their bdays.

They still end every interaction with “we will be praying for you”.

My wife’s family is amazing! And they are also religious but found a church that was LGBTQ friendly when she came out in HS.

That's so unfortunate and disheartening that your parents chose religion over you. This really breaks my heart and infuriates me. I can't imagine choosing religion over my child. I truly hope and pray that your parents will erase the hatred in their hearts.

I am happy that your in-laws are accepting and love you unconditionally. Your in-laws sound like awesome and caring people. The fact that they found a LGBTQ friendly church while your wife was in high school speaks volumes about their commitment to family and placing their child first. It's great that you have their support.

What do mean "they chose religion over you?" Did they shun you or treat you poorly? Or did they just continue participating in a religion that they cared about? Loving your child does not mean agreeing with or promoting everything that they choose. You will find this out yourself when your kids are older and autonomous. (Unconditional love does not equal unconditional agreement.). But I hope that you were treated well.

Use your adult dialectic. People can love their gay children (or children doing anything else that they disagree with) AND believe in a religion that tells them those things are wrong.
. Forgot to say, kind of like God loves all of us even though we constantly go against his teachings.

His teachings¿ What book did God write? The bible was written by uneducated, primitive men thousands of years ago, edited and translated by primitive men hundreds of years and used for political purposes, currently scammers use it to extract millions from unsuspecting rubes.. Don't blame God for that book.

You’re half right. The Bible was written by men. The Bible was translated by uneducated men. But the men who originally wrote the Bible were educated.

Yes, they are Christians and yes, Leviticus says homosexuality is an abomination. This is one of the many reasons atheism makes so much sense.

Not all translations of Leviticus say homosexuality is an abomination

You're right, some say it is detestable or repulsive or defiled. But they all agree it's a sin. Leviticus 18:22

But the original Hebrew does.

Correct. Hebrew has three levels of abomination. Leviticus 18:22 uses the word “toebah,” which is the very worst kind of abomination.

Stay. Ignore the doctrine.

Well given that Jesus essentially tossed most of Leviticus (burnt offerings, clothing and dietary rules), it’s amazing some Christian denominations continue to focus on homosexuality.

Jesus did not change any Jewish law. Matthew 5:17.

If a leper is healed, the leper, according to Leviticus, must go to a priest and offer a burnt offering. Jesus ordered a healed leper to do this. Matthew 8:4.

When you say "tossed," is there a verse or verses in the new testament you could point me to that shows this?

No, he can’t. Jesus never broke any Jewish law. Matthew 5:17.

No, he can’t. Jesus never broke any Jewish law. Matthew 5:17.

PP here. So many examples.

Matthew 38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[a](A) 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.(B) 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.(C)

Matthew 16“Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them. 17“Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”

And Jesus hung out with unclean tax collectors and prostitutes. And communion replacing burnt offerings. And so on.

When Jesus talks in Matthew 5:17 about “fulfilling the law and the prophets” he is talking about a new covenant with God, one that’s less about ritual. See Matthew 35 35One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ c 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ d 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Emphasis on the word “test”—Jesus outwitted the Sadducee and still got his message across. We hear this in the sermon every time these passages are read.

And if that doesn’t work for you, then let’s look at how you yourself practice Leviticus. PP, do you mix cotton and wool and nylon in your clothing? Do you offer up animals? No? Then why are you focused on just one line?

Jesus never had a hand in the writing in the Bible. The 'books' were written and compiled by mortal men who decided what they kept and what they didn't. Slavery - keep, proper wife beating - keep, burnt offerings - keep, etc. Don't blame JC.

There are no examples here at all. For example, the “eye for eye” had long been discounted by the Pharisees. Jesus commanded that we obey Leviticus. Matthew 8:4.

What does that have to do with the pp's statement that Jesus "tossed most of Leviticus"? I guess you're saying that's inaccurate?
