SCOTUS: oral arguments for Dobbs v. Jackson (MS abortion case)

I hope they overturn Roe v Wade. It will be an awesome gift to democrats in the midterms.

Roe won’t be overturned. They will cut viability to 15 weeks, essentially overturning Roe w/out explicitly doing so. This will curb the panic from the Left and gives the Right something to stay engaged by.

I’m not going to get angry, I’m going to organize and volunteer for Dems to keep Congress and hopefully pick up a couple Senate seats so we can finally do something. Funny how anti-mask are OK with My body, my choice?

Don’t count on that. I thought Trump being the nominee would help Hillary. Volunteer and stay giving to groups who do voter outreach in swing states today.

Ladies and gentlemen,

We are well on our way to an authoritarian state.

Run don’t walk.

So they are going to fail both sides?

Hope it will spur action to reform the court. Make the court like 60 judges who are assigned randomly. This would increase the work load and remove the gaming of the court.

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor:
"Our obligation is to define liberty of all, not to mandate our own moral code."

Justice Anthony Kennedy:
"Our cases recognize the right of the individual, married or single, to be free from unwarranted governmental intrusion into matters so fundamentally affecting a person as the decision whether to bear or beget a child."

The GOP has swung way to the right.

Saying 15 weeks does gut Roe because the next case will inch it down to 12 or 10 or 8. Viability is the standard.

Yup. 15 weeks kills the core of Roe. Slippery slope after that.

I am a scientist not a lawyer, so can someone explain to me how anyone can argue that 15 weeks should be the limit on the basis of viability? There is no circumstance in which a fetus in its 15th week of development can survive outside the womb. Like are they just going to make some stuff up to justify 15 weeks = viability? Sorry, I haven’t had a chance to keep up with the oral arguments.

They’ve literally made up “fetal pain” and that’s the basis for the lower threshold. Like Texas’s six-week “heartbeat” that’s not actually a heartbeat. There’s no scientific evidence for it before 23-24 weeks and Sotomayor called them out on it today.

WTF?

This was literally a question by ACB today. When all 50 states have safe haven laws and adoption exists, why does abortion need to be a thing? (paraphrasing)

Kennedy is to blame for the current SCOTUS makeup..

I wonder what Trump said to him.

They really asked that? They've never heard of fathers raping their daughters, 10 year olds getting pregnant, or women whose baby has died in the womb?
