Crime on the hill - Charles Allen has got to go

She's getting redistricted to Ward 7, with Allen's blessing.

This! WTF!!! https://twitter.com/anc6b10/status/1472613139816534021?s=21

A woman who replied to that said that a daycare nearby had been advised by police not to take the children outside anymore. This is apparently after they had some trouble with an aggressive man (presumably a different man than the brick-throwing guy). Does anyone know anything about this? We go to the playground at eastern market frequently and I’m really unnerved by a second bizarre attack involving children.

I like to think I’m not easily rattled but the story about the infant (and some recent experiences a bit south of eastern market) really disturbed me. I feel so for that family and hope they’re okay.

I don’t blame you at all for being rattled. A brick is a dangerous weapon and anyone who throws objects at children is disturbed and should be avoided and feared.

I am sure Charles Allen will come out with a strong statement decrying... brick manufacturers.

There have also been some disturbing incidents near Eastern Market in the last few months regarding people with dogs -- men coming up and threatening them and saying they will hurt or kill the dogs. Very strange and disturbing. I actually feel like these incidents must be the same man or the same couple men because it's a strange pattern. All of these incidents indicate people with serious mental health concerns. There are so many people in desperate need of mental health intervention who aren't getting it right now, and with the rise in homelessness it's only gotten worse. Combine a mental health crisis with a drug problem and it is not surprising when violence results.

I don't know what the answer is but this is why something like violence interruptors isn't really going to get at what is happening right now. I mean, yes, there are certainly young people in our community who could stand to talk to former convicts about where crime might take them in life. But the assumption there is that the people committing these crimes are acting rationally from a place of choice -- choosing to commit a crime instead of something else. But a lot of the crime we are seeing are not conscious choices. It's people with serious mental wellness issues and drug problems acting on delusions and highs, or committing crimes to satisfy addictions. You aren't going to reach these folks with a violence interruptor, sorry.

Wow, y'all pay so much to live in DC but can't take your kids to your local park because of roaming, pipe wielding crazies like it's Mad Max.

More BS from Allen in response to the insane levels of crime:

“ I wish there was going to be a simple solution, but it will take a sustained, citywide effort to address the reasons people choose to carry and use a firearm and commit violence, particularly when considering how the pandemic has upended people's lives.”

My god. Someone please run against this man. He is an ideologue who should not be trusted to run our city. He is better suited for working at some sort of advocacy group, which he can do once he is defeated.

PP- I agree. I haven't experienced the issue with dogs, but I have observed some strange and aggressive behavior around there, enough to make me cross the street. Sometimes I've thought, "well at least no one seems to have a gun here..." after observing some fighting.

It's truly bizarre to see. It's a nice playground full of kids and then right near by are people who are clearly unwell fighting with each other.

I don't disagree with you. I mean, I have some friends that live in the middle of nowhere. I think the commute would drive me insane.

But do they have men who are mentally unwell and possibly high fighting by their kids' playground? No.

I don't know. I'm just disheartened. I just read more about the father and the baby and their injuries and am sickened.

Here is more about the father and the infant.
You either have to be evil or totally deranged to do something like this.

A man accused of attacking a father and his baby daughter with bricks that left them injured and bloodied over the weekend in Washington, D.C., has an extensive criminal history dating back decades.

Jerome Razor, 44, is charged with assault with significant bodily injury while armed and first-degree cruelty to children in connection with the Sunday incident.

Authorities said a man was walking with his two young children, one of whom was in a stroller, when Razor walked up behind him and struck him with a brick on the head. When the father begged Razor not to harm the children, Razor allegedly took another brick from a backpack and struck the child inside the stroller in the face.

Wow, I’m shocked. Just shocked. Is he out roaming the streets yet?

This is horrifying. How can we protect ourselves against violent insane people?

Hopefully Allen starts paying attention to the sea change in San Francisco and eases off the criminal coddling. I have heard zero peeps out of any potential contenders. I would love to support someone willing to run against him.
