Well you all are aware that you can vote for moderate democrats and not progressives right? That would solve the problem right off the bat. |
Just the person you are quoting but yes, I am aware, we are begging them to run so we can not just vote for them but volunteer for and contribute to their campaigns. I would vote for a non Trumpy R at this point for Ward 6. Their federal ideas would not be to my liking but they don’t have federal power. I may have voted for the R over Allen last time for that reason, maybe not, I can’t remember, but I definitely considered it. I just want to be able to go for a walk without worrying about getting jumped. I still go for walks but my head is on a swivel and I check the whole block before I get in my car or out of it to see who is around. We upped our car insurance so we’d be covered for carjackings and hit and run. It’s not a nice car and previously we didn’t have it. Tired of it. |
Give it up, my dudes. We all know Ward 6 will reliably vote for a soft on crime councilmember like Charles Allen. Look around you. I live here. We are surrounded by virtue signaling neighbors with yard signs, idealism and urbanism in mind. There is no fking way we elect someone tough on crime. Everyone here is Uber smart and moved into a little row house with their two kids because they like all things liberal and progressive. It’s a bunch of policy wonks in a city that voted for Hillary by 96%. We aren’t getting any Larry Hogan or Charlie Baker types anytime soon. Read the New Hill East Facebook group. If you even mention prosecuting criminals you out yourself as an insensitive a-hole who is probably a gentrifier. The whole thing is hilarious. In a normal place, especially with the socioeconomic levels seen with Hill residents, you’d have a healthy mix of republicans who could buoy the elections. Here it’s just a progressive race to the bottom. |
| There’s also a million self righteous posts on those FB groups and Twitter supporting the rights of people to form tent cities forever. Only looking at Twitter you’d think no one supported clearing the tent cities. They are just vocal, aggressive, and the rest of us who aren’t nuts got tired of being called racist insensitive gentrifiers or whatever. Most people I think are silently far more moderate and open to a challenger. |
| I know I keep quiet to not be accused of being a gentrifier/racist/ privileged/a Karen. But, in the privacy of voting booth, I would definitely vote to oust Charles Allen. |
|
The part of that Fox story about the father begging that psycho not to hurt his baby and toddler is too much. My heart goes out to that family.
Isn’t the problem bigger than Allen? |
The problem is the growing sense that self-flagellation is justified because of past wrongs. It’s this sort of “we deserve this because of the sins of past legacies and we need to try novel, holistic approaches to crime fighting that result in less incarceration because it breaks up families and has disparate impacts.” This translates into violence interruptors, restorative justice programs, looser laws with less jail time, easier penalties or slap on the wrist punishment for violent younger offenders rather than traditional policing. So yes, less families get broken up. However, as is evidenced by statistics crime goes up. Then you have these, I hate to say it, “woke” folks who shout down any criticism of these types of policies. It’s all pretty forseeable. A normal person would lol at the situation and predict the end result, but people have to learn the hard way I guess. That goes for Charles Allen type voters on Capitol Hill who vote him in even though it’s obvious his wasting of $9.6m on useless violence interruptors (studies show they are useless) will be used as a feel good optics. |
| Have they apprehended the person bashing babies with bricks in Charles neighborhood? |
Yes, but then the release is never publicized. Who knows if he's being held or is already back out. |
This is the problem. We can have no confidence that known-to-be-violent criminals stay off our streets and away from our families as long as Charles Allen (and, frankly though I respect his intelligence and seriousness, Racine) remain in office. |
Is he a homeless man or a resident nearby? I cannot believe any normal human being would do this to a baby. |
Well you can take their advice which is to avoid areas where these people live or keep children away from public parks. |
And if they live in our immediate neighborhoods? |
I wonder if we’re going to be Detroit in 10 years. Our downtown is being gutted by telework. We lost 20k people last year. And our city council is Uber liberal and doesn’t want to fight crime. |
This. Or like DC before Anthony Williams. The bad old days will come again if residents and politicians forget that those days were really bad. At least the last decade of progress has already been erased; the city council is now working on erasing 2000-2010 progress. They won't rest until Marion Barry's ghost gets reelected! |
