Alexandria residents - let's discuss the mayoral race. Silberberg vs. Wilson... and why?

Wilson is definitely more competent, but it might be worth a term of Silberberg to get rid of the guy.

I don't think he's more competent, but I am willing to vote for Silberberg to get rid of him; and so are many Republicans at the primary (crossing over since you don't have to declare a party to vote in the primary).

Regarding the water/flooding/drainage issues that many Alexandria neighborhoods have faced... whom do you guys think has the best grasp on this issue, its urgency, and getting it under control?

Insofar as action and real understanding - not words and studies.

I agree with this, and with the PP who said Mayor Wilson's trumpeting his support of open schools is disingenuous at best.

He did not support opening the schools whatsoever. It is insulting to anyone's intelligence for him to say that now and think you will believe it.

What's the deal with the director of AHD suddenly resigning? The one who was in cahoots with Wilson for the vaccine "equity" of census tracts distribution and with Wilson and Hutchings for the resistance to open and allowing Hutchings to stick to 6 feet. Wilson only changed his tune because of public outcry and the fact that early voting is just a week away (April 23). He thinks people are stupid enough to believe that he supported the measures to open school all along. None of this passes the smell test.

Bump. Anyone?

Silberberg was an absolutely terrible mayor - full stop. I've been about 50/50 on Wilson, but I just generally like competence over incompetence and that's what Silberberg represents. She wasted so much time - went off on so many bunny trails. She's literally that annoying person in a meeting - we all know them - who is constantly just a bit off topic, a little too slow, rambles on too long, likes to hear herself talk, can't get anything done but takes credit for other people's work, etc.

Wilson has his faults - and while I won't be putting his sign in my lawn - I'll probably end up voting for him. I'm a one issue voter this year - open the goddamn schools. I don't care how late he is to this bandwagon - he's the only one that can likely make it happen. Silberberg would have zero ideas on how to navigate this mess, regardless of her position on the issue.

The mayor cannot direct the SB to open the schools. It is irrelevant who holds that position if your concern is their impact on schools reopening.

He can indirectly make it very difficult to keep the schools closed. He can speak to the press, he can talk about this to the public, he can force parts of it through the budget process. He can bring in statewide voices and resources. Anyone with a large enough microphone and a plan can indirectly compel the schools to open. I don't know whether or not he'll do this - but to say he's powerless isn't true... which is also why it's maddening he hasn't spoken up before now.

Wilson did not support opening the ACPS, he was very rude to several people re the Open ACPS movement, now he's singing a different tune and trying to paint himself as a champion of all public school students. I can't even with him. It's unconscionable how he has behaved, how his supporters badmouthed people, stole signs, just went on a huge campaign that we all have to trust the health department and school board. etc. He didn't care. I have zero trust in anything he says. He is solely motivated in getting re-elected and anything that is a stepping stone to running for Congress.

It's also a very strange thing to be a single issue voter about during a deadly pandemic.

Wilson supports the restructuring the lanes on Duke, between Quaker and Telegraph which is astronomically insane. This has two lanes in each direction and is a major artery for commuters to access the Telegraph exit onto 495. The east direction of Duke is ALWAYS severely backed up with cars getting in the right lane anticipating the Telegraph road exit. The back up can stretch all the way to barbecue restaurant and the entire length of the strip mall (with the Sweet Frog). It is the stretch of Duke tha the depot and warehouses for the Alexandria buses, the police headquarters, the skate park, a baseball field, a huge strip mall, Bishop Ireton School, a few car dealerships, and the large Witter soccer complex (in which there is one way in and one way out, being the exact same way).

On what planet should they eliminate a lane in each direction, making one lane in each direction. WTAF? How will this road diet solve anything? And who would be riding these bike lanes? Is this another one of Jim Durham's pet projects? Because we know how Justin threw him a solid and voted for his pet bike lanes on Seminary, giving him a personal crosswalk in front of his house.

Unreal. Wilson has got to go. Vote for anyone else, heck even write someone in.

I was once in the elevator with Wilson at the Glebe Road Giant and he.... stunk. Like, horrid-BO-stunk.

It was repulsive.
