+100 really, truly awful
Seriously. You don't have to love everything Wilson has supported, but voing for Silberberg is cutting off your own nose to spite your face.

Wilson is incredibly arrogant, and his most ardent supports act like rabid Trumpsters, which is a major turn off for so many people I know. And yes, he has ambitions well beyond Alexandria and has never seen a development project he didn’t like.

It’s really a shit choice but my vote lands with Wilson. But I honestly hope it’s super close to give him and his supporters a major wake up call.

I wrote this and after the mayoral debate, I am firmly in Wilson's camp. I do not hope it is a close race; Silberberg needs to permanently disappear. Her responses were absolute gibberish and she knows even less about the issues at stake than I previously understood.

Still hate his crazy supporters though. They are just mean people and have no idea who much their vitriol hurts his campaign.

+1 I don’t like Justin very much either, but Silberberg was an absolutely ineffective mayor who always seemed to have no real opinions or understanding of issues. There’s no way I could vote for her.

Genuine question - where do you see or hear that vitriol from pro-Wilson supporters? I try to stay aware of the issues but generally don’t get closely involved in Alexandria politics and the only vitriol I’ve seen seems to be anti-Wilson. I live in North Ridge, not Del Ray, so maybe that makes a difference. From the local listserv and NextDoor, I’ve heard a ton of anger and vitriol against Wilson and the bike lanes, and haven’t heard much in support of him. Is the support all in Del Ray? I’m considering voting for him since I didn’t think Silberberg did a good job last time, and I don’t really care one way or the other whether there are bike lanes on Seminary Road.

There's quite a bit of projection going on. The constant level of anti-Wilson vitriol and outrage is often accompanied by shock, shock that Wilson might not always be the nicest, most accommodating person.

NP here. I have seen written support that is off the rails on FB, DCUM and neighborhood listservs, I have heard people in person going berserk and basically accusing anyone who disagrees (even to a slight degree) with Justin as being racist (somehow connecting that term to every single issue). I live in Rosemont. People I have known for so long just put blind faith in absolutely anything he does, I have no idea why. And then there is the insane bike lobby who ram their opinions down your throat all day long. These people are not open minded about anything that isn't 100% in agreement with them. They're rude, condescending and just plain suck.

I was on the fence - I totally get criticism of Wilson on Seminary Rd. and over-development, but after watching both debates.... he is clearly the more competent choice. Silberberg gave non-answers and frankly seemed very out of it mentally. I don't get the feeling that she would be more productive in any capacity. My hope is that the (very fair) heat Wilson has faced will make him a better mayor in his 2nd term and pay more attention to the real needs of residents.

Wilson is a liar. I'll take perceived incompetence over a liar any day.

Maybe it's because I live in the wasteland of the West End, but neither Wilson nor Silberburg are making much of an effort out here. There are a couple of signs for each, but nothing like three years ago. I'm not sure if it's due to the lack of campaigning, or people just not liking their choices. I'm a reluctant Wilson voter, but becoming more concerned by the day that Silberburg might pull this off.

The amount of attention, and positioning, to the mayoral race is stupid.

The mayor is ceremonial and functions as another council vote.

If they were somehow both on council (again), neither would even be the best (nobody) or the worst.

Most if not all of this council should be purged, like the last time, and the only counterargument are that most of the alternatives are either the same or even worse.

I found Silberberg to be ineffective as mayor, but agree with the PPs that the traffic and colocation efforts of Mayor Wilson are worse. Councilwoman Del Pepper is retiring so at least that will bring some change.

I'm not feeling motivated over Silberberg or Wilson... but there's always the Republican flight attendant who moved to Alexandria in August 2020 and thinks she knows how to run the city based on her years of being a a flight attendant.

Again, she's lived in Alexandria for like 6 months. And she wants to be mayor.

I am so disappointed in this choice. I am sure she’s a very nice person, but the fact that she’s barely lived in Alexandria 6 months when she announced she was running is a deal breaker full stop.

That’s the best Republicans can come up with? Pathetic.

Wow your racism is out in full force.
