There younger people without pre existing conditions who are getting very sick.

Understood, but the preponderance of severe cases are linked to pre-existing conditions.

Exercise-induced asthma is hardly a pre-existing condition. It's not hypertension or diabetes or lung disease.

What Is Exercise-Induced Asthma?

Exercise can cause shortness of breath in anyone. Airflow obstruction that occurs because of exercise is exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB). An older term for this condition is exercise-induced asthma. This term wrongly suggests that exercise causes asthma. As many as 90% of all people who have asthma will experience symptoms of EIB during exercise. For teenagers and young adults, this may be the most common cause of asthma symptoms.

But it does make a difference! Asthma is a lung/breathing issue . This virus attacks this whole system so people with asthma, people who smoke, old people and very overweight people are at much higher risk of dying. Why do you think people in the most severe cases are having to go on ventilators? My 50 yr old uncle died a few yrs ago from Legionnaires disease he contracted in Germany. He had asthma and was a smoker.

stop it stop it stop it! you are so desperate to prove it can't happen to you.

Well, you better tell that to the WHO, because they have identified asthma as a pre-existing condition that makes it more likely that someone will develop a severe case of coronavirus. But I”m sure you know better.

Oh that’s awful. He is a gem. I so hope he recovers.

Wait.
This article says that he has been placed on a z pack and an anti malarial drug. Isn’t that what the entire internet is bashing Trump for saying shows promise in treatment? If the doctors at NYU are using it, it must be for a reason.

It’s clearly not a panacea if he is on a ventilator.

This. They're throwing everything they have available at it and its not working.

This part reminds me of how people died from HIV/AIDs. Except it was a choice not to come to the hospital then.

Lat and Shemtob have a 2½-year-old son, said Shemtob, who is 36.

One of the toughest parts of Lat’s illness, said Shemtob, is that he and Lat’s other family are not allowed to come to the hospital. Because of the transmittable virus, they can’t be with Lat as he continues to struggle with the illness.

Z pack is for secondary bacterial infection. The anti-malarial drug only shows a potential mild effect to reduce duration, not to cure or prevent it. Basically, David Lat is on the verge of death, and doctors are throwing whatever might help at him, even if they’re not sure it will work. Then big problem with what Trump said was that he basically touted it as an easy cure, which it’s not, but which will make people complacent about avoiding it if they think it’s easy to treat.

The malaria drug and zpack is suspected to dramatically reduce the viral load. This would help in the earliest days of diagnosis. Once pneumonia has set in, the virus has already done too much damage.

OK, a complicating factor.

DP. Exercise induced asthma is definitely not a pre-existing condition. And there are probably many young people who have it and are not awaree of it. My very athletic younger brother only got diagnosed with it during boot camp in the military. And he was not kicked out.

Young people have to be very careful.

From what I’m seeing, the Z-pack, while an antibiotic, actually inhibits viral growth. There were some doctor videos on YouTube explaining it but I can’t remember exactly what it does. That’s not to say all antibiotics do this.

Yeah I read “they’re taking it hour by hour” as he could die at any moment now. Anything right now is a desperation play.

+1

Some people with no risk factors will die. The reality is we are all at risk. Magical thinking isn’t helpful.
