I assume that this board has a high percentage of lawyers. If you are a lawyer, you probably know of David Lat. He is 43 and on a ventilator because of Covid. This struck a chord in me that none of the other news has.

This hits close to home, although I only knew him personally in passing. We definitely run in similar circles and have many friends in common.
He always seemed like a good guy and I really appreciated his mix of insights and humor in his writing. ATL has definitely gone down hill since he has given up a significant role. Hopefully he will be able to recover fully. |
| I think anyone who reads the news is now taking this seriously. But I’m a fan of above the law and this is particularly sad. Poor guy. I hope he recovers soon. |
| David Lat is a true gem of a person. |

This is terrible; he is now in critical condition per an interview with his spouse on Saturday night.

| Also noteworthy to remember that he does have asthma. Not that it makes it any different; just noting that he did have a pre-existing issue... |
|
Just read that on linkedin earlier today. Don't know him, but have read his work.
Terrible. |
There younger people without pre existing conditions who are getting very sick. |
Understood, but the preponderance of severe cases are linked to pre-existing conditions. |
Exercise-induced asthma is hardly a pre-existing condition. It's not hypertension or diabetes or lung disease. |
OK, a complicating factor. |
Especially considering he ran marathons. |
| Regrettably, everyone in the country will likely know at least one person who succumbs to COVID-19 before the pandemic subsides. |
But it does make a difference! Asthma is a lung/breathing issue . This virus attacks this whole system so people with asthma, people who smoke, old people and very overweight people are at much higher risk of dying. Why do you think people in the most severe cases are having to go on ventilators? My 50 yr old uncle died a few yrs ago from Legionnaires disease he contracted in Germany. He had asthma and was a smoker. |
Yes, under normal circumstances... |
