What does it mean when someone scores a 160 on the Naglieri?

that is definitely an amazing score and she should be proud as she has awesome reasoning skills. I would recommend to get her tested for WISC to get the actual IQ.
who knows she might even qualified to join Prometheus club or at least triple nine club. I know for Prometheus club, they only take MAT scores lately so that one would be
bit more challenging.

What are the Prometheus and Triple 9 Clubs?

it's high IQ club like Mensa. Triple 9 requires to be top 0.1 % while Prometheus needs to be top 0.03%
considering large portion of AAP kids already qualify for Mensa that kinda lost merit of having high IQ club.
one can join Triple 9 or Prometheus through taking MAT. SB can get you in to Triple 9. That's if someone wants to become a member.
more of bragging rights, although they do provide some good networking in some ways

Yes, back in 3rd grade when the initial gifted screening was done for all kids, she was given the Naglieri and Cogat.

I guess you mean what were her scores? I don't recall her actual scores. I do know that she scored 99% on the Naglieri and on both sections of the Cogat, but I don't have a recollection of being stunned by her having received the highest possible score. I know that there is a pretty big range for what is considered the 99th percentile. One of her friends got a 140 on the Naglieri and that was considered the 99th percentile as well.

Well it was years ago, so I really haven't given much thought to her scores in quite a while. And even though she scored 99 percentile, she could have still scored quite a few points below the max. Seeing her get the max score was really quite a bit more than a slight surprise, I was actually rather astounded by it

Well my husband has a perfect SAT and can be dumb about some stuff, so who knows.

In all seriousness though, I'd proud. Make sure she knows that it doesn't define her - for kids who seem "normal" stuff like this can make them not try.

I have no idea why this would astound you. My kid scored very high on the cogat and Wisc. You had no idea with 2- 99% scores, admission into the gifted program, and presumably years of success in that program and you are astounded that the kid got a perfect score on an abilities test?

Yeah. To me a 160 seems like it's Einsteinian level smart, and while it's pretty obvious to me that DD is very smart, she spends most of her free time texting friends, making tik toks, and watching James Charles makeup tutorials. She doesn't seem to be on the path for curing cancer.

A 160 Naglieri doesn’t suggest a 160 IQ or even a 140 IQ. The Naglieri is a brief, multiple choice screener that tests nonverbal skills. It also has a reputation for disproportionately many high scores. Your kid is smart, but stop being ridiculous. If you’re getting that wrapped up in scores, then get a real IQ test.

I would consider a career counselor who gives a broad battery of ability tests. I used Pathfinders in Alexandria when I wanted to switch careers. The advice was great, though I wish I had had it earlier. One of the most helpful parts was seeing that I wasn’t good at everything. I also got the max score on a spatial task, but bombed an editing measure. It helped me clarify my direction. I wouldn’t be surprised if the tests measured the same things as the WISC, but having practical next steps appealed to me.

It means she's a very, very smart kid. Like others have said, get a proper IQ test to baseline her level of intelligence. Foster her interests and make sure she's challenged.push her limits. Don't focus on Stem vs other. If she's not interested in STEM, it would be time and energy wasted. However, it would be good to expose her to STEM topics (Robotics or coding clubs) to see if she has any interest..

This is a really good idea, probably good for all highschoolers to do before heading off to college. How much did it cost?
