Let's talk about ghosts

Anonymous
When I was a kid, a group of us were playing catch in a family friend’s backyard. The ball went into the adjacent woods. My brother went to get it and I stood on a rock at the periphery to help direct him. After a minute, I looked down and noticed that the rock had a name and date on it: a nineteenth-century boy about 11years old.

I freaked out and ran in to tell my parents. Their friend laughed and told us about the Civil War-era family plot in their woods, and “that’s one of the reasons we bought the house!”

I heard knocking on my bedroom wall for a couple of weeks after. There wasn’t anyone on the other side (my room was next to the bathroom.) I didn’t feel scared, just curious. I finally asked “is that Harry?” and never heard the knocking again.

I’m a psychic and a medium. I see and hear spirits and ghosts every day. My family was actually irritated with me yesterday because they are convinced I’m “bringing that sh1t home”. I’m not. They are just becoming more aware. Everyone on this planet can see spirits. You just have to learn to pay attention.

OK, I’ll bite. How does one learn to pay attention?

I’ve posted this before but I’ll play!

We bought our house in 2009 when flipping houses was really popular. Just before our closing, we found out that the owner’s/flipper’s dad had passed away just days before. At our closing, she told us that this house had been the last house she and her dad had worked on together before he died, and that he had absolutely loved the pendant light over the sink in the kitchen. The pendant light over the sink in the kitchen was actually the thing I hated most about the house, and the first thing we got around to changing once we were moved in.

Shortly after that, strange things started happening around the house. I’d hear water running loudly in the basement, but when I’d go down there, the sinks would be dry. I’d hear what sounded like someone breaking in and walking around in the middle of the night, but after investigating, would find nothing amiss. These two things would happen again and again.

After one particularly terrifying night, I remembered what the previous owner had told us about the pendant light. I got out of bed, went into the kitchen, and apologized. I spoke out loud, apologizing to the father, explaining that while the pendant was beautiful, but it just hadn’t been my style.

The house hasn’t made a sound since.

You live in a very diverse spiritual ecosystem. You are literally surrounded by beings that you cannot always perceive. Think about sounds, for example. Your dog can hear sounds that you cannot hear. Teenagers can hear sounds that older adults can not. Look for signs. Pay attention to the periphery in your field of vision. Watch shadows and air movement. Pay attention to light pattern and temperature changes. Notice smells. Learn to really listen when it’s quiet. When you are in a dark room, look for areas that are darker than the dark. Benevolent spiritual beings like your deceased loved ones and guides don’t want to scare you. They use very subtle movements and patterns to get your attention. Once they are confident that you are not afraid, they’ll start showing up in more obvious, evidential ways.

So, I was engaged to be married in my early 20s. Before we could wed, my intended died. Before she died, she told me that she would contact me if she could; she was...superstitious and I"m a scientist. I said ok, fine b/c I didn't think she'd die, of course, but she did. After death, she contacted me a couple of times a year. I accepted the contact and sort of "rolled with it". When I had my second child, I was home alone in the kitchen. She came to me again and "said" (in a very loving way) I'm done visiting you. You have a great life, a great family and I'm happy for you. And she left. I haven't been visited since. This is (midnight) the 23rd anniversary of her death. RIP XXX.

I share this story b/c as a scientist, I think it was my brain processing...but I liked it. I also like thinking about her this time of year. It's happy/sad. I wish she lived but I've got a good life and I hope she watches me like the Truman Show.

Scientist from above here.

Yesterday was cool but I went out to my car and passed through a warm spot. Of course, I thought of my late beloved. I thought ghosts were supposed to be cold...but I passed through a warm spot. Of course, it's my mind reminding me, but I do love to think she was right and she's here...sometimes. Also, I didn't think it was her but I wondered if it was someone...

I'm a bad scientist, clearly.

It was only a microclimate, you know this. But still, it’s fun to play, right?

Accepting that there are things you can’t explain does not make you a bad scientist. Think about all the things we assumed were impossible until science finally proved us wrong. The warm spot might have been caused by an easily explainable phenomenon. But the fact that you immediately thought of your loved one suggests it was a little sign. Be open. Next time something like that happens, ask. Just say hello. Let them know you noticed. And that you welcome visits. I promise, you’ll start to see more.

So, they can see us having sex?

I tend to agree with Scientist, that my brain is just remembering something. But in the spirit of science (pun intended), there is still so much to prove that maybe one day can be proven as technology and the world changes. Right now we can't prove ghosty things, but maybe one day....

No. They don’t see us in our physical form. They see us the same way we see them. Usually they see our higher selves as light.

I've never seen a ghost, but felt a few. I smelled my stepfather after his death; he'd never been to my home while alive, but I could smell his scent just outside my bedroom door, just in that one spot.

My ex's mom died suddenly - I didn't get an opportunity to meet her while she was alive - and I could feel her presence in her bedroom the day she passed. I could feel that she didn't understand that she had died. She wasn't angry or sad, just shocked and confused. I wasn't afraid, but I felt it was very disrespectful of me to go into her personal space. The lights in the dining room flickered when her best friend from work came over after her passing and told funny stories about their time together. I felt her presence leave after a few days.

I think you’re a great scientist. You’re open to new ideas about things you don’t completely understand. The worst scientists are the ones who think they know everything.
