Loudoun is so big, they get a pass on almost anything regardless how competitive they are. 99 reds are gone now, they don't have a standout anymore, but they love promoting how many kids they put into college programs with dominant schools like CNU! |
Loudoun parent here. The 07s are one of best teams in the area, you are smoking crack if you think any ofhos teams mentioned are better. |
I think people don’t believe DA is really that special. So one year Loudoun played CCL, next year same team plays DA, now this year ECNL. Different patches is all that changed. Pass the crack pipe I guess |
Often, boy DA teams are not the first teams for club players. They draw from a much wider area. Perhaps not Loudoun’s former DA (I simply don’t know) but certainly others. The broader point certainly rings true. The league switches should embarrass everybody the clubs and the leagues. Half the NOVa CCL is ex NCSL or NPL and a number of ex CCL teams (first teams) are playing NCSL or VPL. And of course a number of top teams at these clubs elect to play in EDP from time to time. I don’t know how many CCL parents I have seen over the past two years eating crow when transitioning to NCSL. Agreed. Pass the pipe. |
| Bryc 07 ECNL team is the same roster from when they were u9s in CCL. Not much development there. Same rosters for A team and B team from u9 up to now u13. Either they are the best u9 talent evaluators ever. Or they suck at developing their B teams. |
| Any idea yet if your top team is deciding to do the Bethesda or the new McLean tournament in November? |
Loudoun was never a full DA. So kids at the younger ages of Loudoun DA would have had to make either VDA or DC United at a certain point to continue playing DA. That attrition within DA is what makes it competitive and difficult to make at the older ages when it matters. |
| The results are in...Loudoun was in the top division. They went 0-3 with 5 GF and 11 GA. As to the two other ECNL teams....McLean went 1-1-1 with a win over Loudoun. They had 5 GF and 6 GA. And BRYC went 0-3 with 3 GF and 8 GA. Someone mentioned Potomac not deserving to be in top flight. They made the semis at least. |
I saw a video of the Calverton team in this age group. Two of those kids up front look like they are 21. It’s really hard to tell anything from these groups other than growth rates and differences in the public at large are reflected among top travel soccer teams. SYC looked very strong from top to bottom of the roster, not surprising for a state cup champ. |
I guess after they had a beer in the parking lot, they went on and beat SAC Blue Spurs in the final this morning. It seems like after all the back and forth about who should be in the top division vs 2nd division, it looks like the tournament did a pretty decent job. |
Sterling Orange, not mentioned in the thread, beat the second SAC team in the finals of the second tier. So, yes, seems brackets were about right. |
| By looking at the OBGC Tournament results this weekend. BRYC 07 ECNL is in for a long year coming up. So much for ECNL teams being elite. Did anyone see any of their games this weekend ? |
The current ECNL teams aren't magnets anymore. Like someone else said before...BRYC is the same BRYC team for years. Same with McLean. Loudoun may have had a little change with the DA but it's not like ECNL is a draw for kids and parents so there is no reason that ECNL teams should be elite. They are just another big club. My son is a decent soccer player and two of these clubs are relatively nearby and could easily make the team but he has ZERO desire to join them and neither do I. They offer nothing for us...especially at the younger ages such as U15 and younger. |
Agree that they aren't magnets. With a combined record in the OBGC Cup of 1-1-7 (W-D-L), they can't say that they can't find competition in the DMV. Why drive to the Carolinas for average league games, all the competition you need is right here. |
A few things to note, there are still a lot of quality players in ECNL and some clubs like Loudoun just made the switch. They lost some players and will most likely loose more next year. Based on my observations, lots of players have left ECNL and some from DA to join clubs that are in EDP, NCSL, and CCL just to play and get out of the rat race of always hunting for the "top". Those kids will be less likely to burn out in my opinion. |
