We want more LEGAL immigrants. But nice try, PP.

Bans from Muslim countries and how many kids in concentration camps, kids whose parents were LEGALLY seeking refugee status suggests this is not actually the case.

The remains of the concentration camps are in Europe, my friend. Go see them.

No, they’re down on the border and turning a handsome profit for big GOP donors. They came legally. They have been kidnapped from their parents as a means of torture. I’d tell you to go see them, but they’re turning away journalists and lawmakers.

so many people who LOVE Godwin's Law!

You all should form an online forum. How many posts does it take BEFORE someone resurrects Godwin's Law?

Is this shocking?

Everyone gets a g-ddamn medal for wiping his/her ass in this country. Why should immigration be any different?

I will be voting for Klobuchar because she is the only major candidate who didn’t go crazy on this topic. I will vote third party before I vote for a democrat that believes in decriminalizing illegal immigration. I voted for Obama twice & Clinton, so I’m not exactly conservative.

Asylum is not a "fundamental human right", it is available only to a small group of people.

You've basically summed up how I feel.

As a legal immigrant I posted these same concerns and got jumped on. It’s so upsetting Dems are hell bent on losing this election.

Of course you do. You also think that anyone against illegal immigration is a racist. How many times have you repeated that asinine accusation? Of course immigrants are a net positive to the country; LEGAL, highly skilled immigrants absolutely are. ILLEGAL immigrants are a net loss to this country, and anyone arguing otherwise needs their head examined.

And yes - asylum is a fundamental human right. So it's unfortunate that the vast majority of those trying to gain entrance into the US don't meet legally defined standards for asylum and have to be sent back to their home countries. Perhaps if Democrats would stop trying to convince them that they actually *do* meet those standards, fewer would make the arduous - and mostly fruitless - journey to the border. Maybe you guys should think about that.

And, I can't see how they can swing back to the middle based on the past two nights.

First, there is health care. When Warren and Kamala Harris raised their hands and said that they would eliminate employer-based health insurance, they made the most important gesture of the campaign so far. Over 70 percent of Americans with insurance through their employers are satisfied with their health plan. Warren, Harris and Sanders would take that away.

According to a Hill-HarrisX survey, only 13 percent of Americans say they would prefer a health insurance system with no private plans. Warren and Sanders pin themselves, and perhaps the Democratic Party, to a 13 percent policy idea. Trump is smiling.

Second, there is the economy. All of the Democrats seem to have decided to run a Trump-style American carnage campaign. The economy is completely broken. It only benefits a tiny sliver. Yet in a CNN poll, 71 percent of Americans say that the economy is very or somewhat good. We’re in the longest recovery in American history and the benefits are finally beginning to flow to those who need them most. Overall wages are rising by 3.5 percent, and wages for those in the lowest pay quartile are rising by well over 4 percent, the highest of all groups.

Third, Democrats are wandering into dangerous territory on immigration. They properly trumpet the glories immigrants bring to this country. But the candidates can’t let anybody get to the left of them on this issue. So now you’ve got a lot of candidates who sound operationally open borders. Progressive parties all over the world are getting decimated because they have fallen into this pattern.

DP. Just the gross misuse of the phrase "concentration camps" is enough for me to discount anything else you might have said.

Wanting to curb illegal immigration doesn't automatically mean one is xenophobic. Ask many legal immigrants and you might be surprised.

From the OP's article:

"It is not strange that legal immigrants — who have often spent years and thousands of dollars to play by the rules — might be opposed to others’ jumping the line. It is not strange that a hefty proportion of Latino legal immigrants oppose illegal immigration — they are often the most directly affected by new, illegal competition, which drives down their wages."

I think it would be extremely instructive for liberals to take a trip to Auschwitz and learn about the atrocities that occurred at *actual* concentration camps. Or at the very least, a field trip to the Holocaust Museum would be eye-opening.

Those of you for whom immigration is your #1 issue -- what exactly is it that bothers you so much?

I am SO much more bothered by the idea that our country is caging children. And I dearly hope there are more voters like me than there are children of immigrants (all of you) rushing to slam shut the door to freedom and opportunity.

It bothers me that you don’t want to do anything about the foster we already have, who are waiting for a caring person to adopt them. And you do nothing?
