I completely agree with the gist of this. All of the Democratic candidates pretty much agree that a tightening of asylum law is not needed. They're willing to put illegal immigrants (all of them) on a path to U.S. citizenship. And this is exactly why I won't be voting for a Democrat in 2020. "What emerged was their core message to the world: Get here without papers and you’ll receive humane treatment while you’re processed, you’ll never be detained, you’ll get work permits immediately, and you’ll have access to publicly funded health care and a path to citizenship if you don’t commit a crime. This amounts to an open invitation to anyone on the planet to just show up and cross the border. The worst that can happen is you get denied asylum by a judge, in which case you can just disappear and there’s a 1 percent chance that you’ll be caught in a given year. Who wouldn’t take those odds?" |

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! |
| I think you're in a bubble of xenophobia. Immigrants are a net positive to the country; asylum is a fundamental human right; and democrats are demonstrably not against border controls. |
We want more LEGAL immigrants. But nice try, PP. |
agree one million percent. |
Ummm, did you not watch the debates??? Castro, and a majority want to decriminalize crossing the border illegally. That does not sound like border control? |

This is another article echoing these sentiments and pointing out other issues on which the candidates are too far left.......
And, I can't see how they can swing back to the middle based on the past two nights.

| Andrew Sullivan speaks the truths that many do not want to hear. |
Bans from Muslim countries and how many kids in concentration camps, kids whose parents were LEGALLY seeking refugee status suggests this is not actually the case. |
Read the OpEd by David Brooks. |
Wanting to curb illegal immigration doesn't automatically mean one is xenophobic. Ask many legal immigrants and you might be surprised. |
The remains of the concentration camps are in Europe, my friend. Go see them. |
| The fact is that not everyone who desires or deserves to come and live permanently in the US will be able to. It's time to stop acting like this is a fundamental right. |
I’m a legal immigrant who followed the rules. I had relatives who could not come to the US and ended up in Germany instead. Why did they need to follow the rules? Maybe they should have gotten a fight to Mexico and crossed the border illegally? Seems this is the behavior we are encouraging!!!! |
Bullsh*t asylum? https://www.uscis.gov/humanitarian/refugees-asylum/asylum
Which one applies to the illegal folks crossing over? race? nope, as they come from homogeneous countries religion? nope - same, mostly Christian nationality? Refer to above. particular social group? yeah, no political opinion? lol, nope I will not be voting D either b/c of this very issue. It will create a division w/in the D party b/c far too many Ds - like you - are morons who don't respect the law. nice try with the asylum issue . . . But you need to do some research first. |
