My son is not in Cavs 2023, and I don't know anything about them or that game against Western Loudoun. However, this spring, in the HoCo league, Cavs 2023 were in the AA division (the second toughest division - the divisions were Elite, AA, A, and B). Their record was 6 and 1, the second best in the division, so they don't completely suck. Other travel teams in that division were Cannons, VLC, Madlax Caps, 3D, Lax Factory, Peninsula, API Diamondbacks, PG Lacrosse Club, FCA White, and USS Carriers.
For Loudoun families who want better lacrosse, VLC is the best option by far.
You have to be "invited" to try out for VLC, and I don't know how one gets an invitation. Do you know?
Cavs is content playing in B tournaments and racking up money.
My son's Cavs team, thus far, has not been pwning the other teams in tournaments. They generally have to fight for their wins against fairly comparable teams. So it doesn't seem to me like they are "playing down". If they are in less prestigious or competitive tournaments, that's apparently where they should be. But so are a crapload of other lacrosse clubs, because the tournaments the Cavs go to are huge. Dozens of fields and teams. As for "racking up money" I don't think Cavs are any more expensive than most of the other teams in the area. Summer season costs: Evergreen = $1350 MadLax = $1250 to $1600 depending on age (plus that $100/month extra fee) VLC = $1000 to $1600 depending on age 3D = $1500 Cavs = $1600 If you're gonna play travel, you're going to pay ~$1,600 plus hotels, gas, and food. It is what it is.
