What's a good weight loss program/regimen for over 50?

Get a fitbit, sign up for a yoga class. Yoga is more than stretching; it builds muscle strength. Your local rec center offers classes. You'll feel a difference.

Try to go on a 30-minute walk per day.

Stick to one reasonable dessert per day, don't completely deprive yourself. Just mentally track what you eat (a Fitbit will tell you how many calories you have burned today). Everything in moderation.

Good luck!

I'm nearing 50 and just started doing Weight Watchers online. I love it and have already lost about 10 pounds by just monitoring what I eat. My mom has several friends (in their 70s) who do the group WW meetings and the weight losses have been dramatic. Give it a shot. It's really sensible and pretty easy to follow.

HITT
Lift weights
No snacking, stick to three meals/day
Limit white flour, sugar and sweeteners
Lots of water

I am 47 and down 14 pounds in 3 months without feeling deprived. I usually have one "white carb" or sweet per day along with my meal. So pasta, cake, a piece of chocolate, etc. are fine, just not a lot. Still have a long way to go, but this feels like a lifestyle change that is totally manageable for me.

You know it is not this simple, right?

It's exactly this simple. Simple =/= easy, but it's exactly this simple, especially for men.

+1
Basic laws of thermodynamics DO apply, to both men AND women: CaloriesOut - CaloriesIn = Loss (or Gain)
Not easy, but VERY simple.

Count calories. Take it slow. Start with 1800 a day and see if you lose 2-3 lbs over a month. Adjust calorie intake up or down depending on the rate of weight loss. Make as much of your calories as possible protein. Take a multivitamin each day. This approach is guaranteed to work if you follow it exactly.

I don't think it is sooooo simple.

Every body (gut flora, how it reacts to xyz) is different, and carbs are different than protein and fat.

Of course, you do need to have more calories being burned than consumed, I won't dispute that. But you will do better if you eat more fat and protein and less simple carbs and grains.

Exercise will undoubtedly make you feel better and tone you up. But it doesn't usually help you lose weight.

You are missing it. Nobody is saying it's EASY.
But it is completely SIMPLE.
Accurately count your calories IN and OUT.
If OUT is bigger than IN you will lose weight, scientifically guaranteed.
That's it! Simple.

It is calories in calories out. Where you fall on that Spectrum may different affect how easy it is. If you have a health issue like a thyroid problem, that will affect how many calories you can take in. But it is that
Simple.

People here want to try all these crazy methods. Fasting. Keto. Low carb low fat And you probably are having success on these diets but it's because you're taking in fewer calories overall. Not because you found the magic time of day and the magic combination of macros to eat

You just found a system that works for you

The question was “What is a good weight loss program”

So you don't believe 100C of protein vs 109C of carb is different?

The metabolism, production of insulin, muscle production?

It's all just the same?
